It started a bit slow for me and lots of names of people that are thrown at you in a couple pages. There was one main character that just bugged me through the whole book, really had a hard time with her.

I feel like Dallas really knows the time period she's writing about, including the food of that era. The characters felt very real, and I remember scenes from the novel many years after reading it.

I listened to this while traveling and loved it. Growing up in a small town and moving away for a brief time to the city I related to several of the characters. I know what it’s like to have the “city” people not understand the bonds that small town people have. The need to protect our own. This is a story about love, loss, friendship both new and old and learning that to truly see people you have to stop making assumptions based off what you think you know and truly open your eyes to heart of others.

This is not the type of book I would normally read but I'm glad I did. It was reminiscent of Fried Green Tomatoes.

Loved the ending

This was a very sweet book. I loved the small town feel, and the togetherness of the women in the club. It definitely had a Steel Magnolias feel to it, but there's actually a mystery element that gives it flavor. I adored the main character, Queenie, and seeing the women through her eyes. This was a quick, fun, and uplifting read.
