This book was probably 3 times longer than it needed to be and was really hard to get through. A lot of unnecessary and repetitive details were included and it just got soooooo dry.

I am really sad to be giving such a low rating on such an important story. This is the worst true crime novel I have ever read. Let's start with the narrator, who did just an awful job. Not only does she sound like she has marbles in her mouth, but I also heard her nose or throat whistling or something. Also, I don't think she realized how serious of a story this was. Her "imitating" of any one was unforgivably horrid. She should not be reading audiobooks, sorry.

As for the book itself. It was not well done at all. There were many parts that were repeated numerous times, it was mostly re-reading of tweets/social media posts but also other things as well. There were a lot of times I had to look and see if I accidentally re-round the audiobook. To add to that, there was also a lot of things mentioned that didn't truly belong to this story (Like the bank robberies), I get how it kind of intertwined but it was given way more time than it should have been given.

This is such a sad, heartbreaking story and I wish that someone would have wrote the book that would have done a way better job.

The premise of this book is tragic. The writing was so-so at best. I feel that there were too many details regarding the detectives which I felt was irrelevant to the story. Overall, a simple Google search would be able to provide the same details of the book minus the 'filler stories'.

Just after midnight on July 6th, 2012, 16-year-old Skyla Neese snuck out of her bedroom window and got in a car waiting outside. She was never seen again. Her body was found six months later in a wooded area less than 30 miles from her home. Even more shocking, two of her friends had confessed to brutally stabbing her to death. They plotted the crime for months, lured her from her bed, stabbed her and then covered her with twigs and leaves and left her to rot. Pretty Little Killers explores this shocking crime through the eyes of Skyla, her family, the investigators, and her killers as they try to answer Skyla’s final question, ‘Why?’

True crime fascinates me for many reasons, but one that always persists is ‘why?’ In this case, the victim herself asked that very question and I was interested to see if the confessions and diaries of her killers could help answer the question of why two teenage girls would coldly and calculatedly murder their best friend. These are troubled young women and much of what they have revealed is chilling and disturbing. But the authors kept the victim at the centre of the story, reminding us this is Skyla’s story, while also trying to answer her final question. The answer her killers gave was terrifying, but I hope that in exploring her case that lessons can be learned that might help avoid further tragedy.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in true crime. Just be aware that it is a very difficult one to listen to.
