Nice to get a little more Mercy Thompson. I like the idea of a prequel to get the backstory. I enjoyed it, but the story doesn’t quite fit the way I’ve imagined things happening based on things said in the novels and some characters don’t look how I picture them. So I’m glad to know the backstory, but could have been better.

This was my first graphic novel I had ever read. I'm not a huge fan of comic books and I always find the illustrations of characters a little too.....muscular and....well-endowed, which makes them a little hard to take seriously.
I love the Mercy books and have always felt the first book in the series left out a lot of the background and how Adam and Mercy came to know each other. This book answers some of those questions, as well as questions about how Stephen and Mercy met.
It was fun to see an artist's interpretation of Briggs' characters as well.
Overall it was an entertaining, if not short, read. I will probably buy future installments as well.

I didn't really care for this one. Not because I don't like graphic novels; I really do. And I really enjoy the series in novel form, I just don't think it translates well to comic book.

Since I have not read the entire original novel series, I am going to give a review as an outsider to this series starting with a graphic novel.
Confusion. That is the one word that sums up my experience with this graphic novel. I truly believe that if I had read the original series first, than this graphic novel probably would have made much more sense. Yes it is easy to follow along with, but as a new reader to this author, it did lack answers to some questions. I still have no idea about Mercy’s life growing up and what she was doing living with Bran. The other part that left it confusing, was the illustrations. As other reviewers have mentioned, they are beautiful. The downfall of them though is that they change. Mercy will look one way and then change to a different look on the following page. One moment she is thin and graceful, the next she is muscular and stocky. Graphic novels are suppose to tell the story through the pictures and less text, but it makes it difficult for the reader if the looks are constantly changing.

This was a prequel series to Briggs' Mercy Thompson novels. Written solely for comics. I enjoyed the backstory to familiar characters. The art was dark and excellent. I hope they do more of her work in comic form!
