Reading the series. This was a great introduction.
language: "do you want to F% him?", "is it okay if I M@bate?" Take those two statements out and you have a PG rating. ;)

This story has an interesting premise, but it really fell flat for me. I appreciate it when authors include diverse characters but the manner in which that was introduced and then constantly re-introduced just felt forced. I wanted more of the worlds and directions - that felt like a unique aspect but never went anywhere. I just felt let down by this story.

Good migraine listen, I liked it pretty solidly, but have some issues with it. I’m interested in continuing the series though. Maybe I’ll save them for other migraine listens
Edit: Migraine me has lost ranking/rating privileges what the fuck was happening with that. Upon coherence, dropping a star because the problems of this outweigh the good. We are now at a 3* for a very middle of the road feeling

Fast read, slow story. Wonderful world building. Incredibly thoughtful. Wonderful to see diversity presented as normal, including a transgender character, asexual, role reversals, etc. The mystery driving the story was the least interesting thing about this-- I would love to continue reading about this world. The narrative perspective kept jumping from character to character as it served the story, which was done well and respectfully, but was not clearly marked or delineated in any way and could be confusing momentarily.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

3.5/5 ⭐️
The story follows Nancy, a child who is sent to boarding school for 'special kids’. She's sent there because she finds a door that leads to a magical world. But she is now back from that world, and is struggling to adjust to life. This boarding school is full of kids who have also been through similar experiences... and there are some mysteries along the way that need solving.
So this was an interesting read. It was a darker fantasy than I'd anticipated! Plenty of unique LGBT representation and magical worlds mentioned.
The story took a bit of a darker turn halfway through and had an element of mystery to it. It reminded me of the feeling I got when I read “Piranesi”, where I was intrigued, confused and solving mysteries all at the same time. Not like my usual reads, and I found it refreshing!
