an incredible and powerful reading experience. it is an ending that feels complete, right and powerfully in line with the themes of this series. getting to the final acknowledgments and realizing how much of this was about the author's own mother was heartbreaking.
i don't have much to ELABORATE on. the experience of reading these books is all-consuming and unlike other reading experiences i've had. the momentum of this story is incredible and i honestly don't even know where the time went.

This book is phenomenal. If i could give it 6 stars i would no doubt. The strength of characters and narrative that jemisin brings to life here is exceptional. The grief, loss, injustice and horror of cultural oppression, conquerors and exploitation that represents so much about so many marginalized and oppressed groups of peoples is masterfully illustrated amongst nassun and essuns journeys/experiences and what ultimately they want to do with the fate of the world. Very very powerful stuff in this book that so many people need to read.

“But for a society built on exploitation, there is no greater threat than having no one left to oppress.”

Ummm... This was more of a 2.5 for me. I really couldn't get into this series, although I did like the first book. It was the writing style that I really didn't like, the story and concepts were interesting but the writing style was just awkward to read. I guess I'll just never understand the hype.

A good ending to the trilogy.

This was a resounding finish to Jemisin's commentary on injustice, oppression, and generational trauma. Her characters remained true to themselves through the very end.
