This series really has greatly impacted me. This story at its heart is really about a mother and daughter. The Stone Sky is devastating and beautiful all the same. I am sad that the story didn’t end in the happy ending I imagined but in its own way there is still a hopeful future. I also did not expect that Hoa might actually be a love interest in a way. Also in a way a cautionary tale about Earth and human kind and our treatment of both each other and the Earth.

I suppose I still liked this final book in the series, but it's the least of the books where I'd hope it would have been the best. The ending is conclusive but failed to satisfy; there's an emotional distance, to me, that didn't allow it to succeed. A lot of time was spend on the migration of Castrima, and I'm not quite sure why; it wasn't particularly important to the plot or to the characters. It felt very much like filler, and a good chunk of the book did as well: filling in backstory that wasn't really necessary, filling in world building details that we were as good without.

And yet I can see clearly how other people can and will like the book much more than I did. I just...didn't, much.

Great ending to a great series :)

My positives and negatives are largely the same as for the first two books: the world-building and its history, mystery and magic are amazing and so much fun to find out about, but it really does feel like the characters are just ways to move the plot in the desired direction instead of real people with real emotions. Despite this, the book still had an emotional impact and some fantastic moments, but with better character work it could have been a masterpiece for me.

But yeah super fun read, definitely recommend especially if you value strong and interesting world building
