DID NOT FINISH

I could not stand any of the characters! So um yeah.

Meh….
I really tried to like it. I’ve heard so many great things about this story, but, it bored me to tears :(
underwhelming as fuck

3 stars simply because it’s a classic, and the writing was beautiful.

The first time I tried to read this I wasn't very familiar with the prose style of classics, so I had a hard time getting through it. Around five chapters in, I happened to get a free trial to Audible for a class, so I listened to the audiobook instead of reading it. When my trial ran out I never finished it.

Coming back to it over a year later, I had a much easier time following the story, maybe because of my familiarity with the characters, since that's what usually trips me up in these stories. While I do prefer stories with more amped up drama and tragedy, this is a beautiful and excellently-plotted narrative.

It wasn't a particularly thrilling read, but I think it shines most through its characters. All the characters are really well-developed and their relationships are as well. I especially love the two protagonists for their wit and their stubbornness. Although I wouldn't say this is the funniest classic I've read from this time period, it was an amusing read.

I think this is a book that has a great, gradual build-up and rewarding payoff. Great for people who don't mind a slow read and love a thoughtful story.

19% ~ Although I am not close to finishing this book yet, I have a good feeling this will be one of my all-time favourites. The melodrama, the awkwardness between the characters. I didn't expect this to be a comedy but it is. I laughed so many times while reading this. Can't wait to finish this book and fall ardently in love.

EDIT: I have now finished the novel and I have to admit I was absolutely devastated when I realised the "You have bewitched me body and soul" line was not here. Oh, Matthew Macfayden set the standards too high. However, I thought this to be a very great novel and quite witty for the time. I still do like the film from 2005 much better. I think the relationship that the sisters have with both Bingley and Darcy should have been focused on more. Is this book dated? Somewhat, due to the incredible amount of time we spend travelling to random people's houses in this novel. Overall, I was expecting the film and I ended up with a family drama instead. Not disappointed, just not what I expected.
