Ok this is one of my favorite books of the year. Shilohโ€™s writing is SO.GOOD.
I imagined Ridge with slicked back hair and suspenders and I am obsessed with him.
I loved the plot, the setting, the time period. I just love this book.

Why arenโ€™t more people talking about this book?! This is the kind of poetic writing I ๐˜ค๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ท๐˜ฆ. It's super dark, but beautiful in its own way. It pushes your morals and brings up these deep, tangled emotions. I thought it was an incredible read!

But, if you're looking for a villain to everyone but her MMC, you won't find that here. Ridge is feral, unhinged - more animal than man most times. He does what he wants, when he wants. And when it comes to Sadie, there's no saving her from his dark beast.

Even with his darkness, they still have these unexpectedly soft moments too. My favourite was when they first make it to the ocean. I couldn't hold back my tears. It was such a tender scene between the wolf and his little fawn ๐Ÿฅน

A wild and unique take on shifter romance. If you're a dark romance reader, I think you'll devour this one. Then, Earth Swallowed Ocean gets all my love ๐Ÿ–ค

I feel so complicated about this book. I got sucked in instantly because Sloane's writing is poetic as I'm sure you'll gather from the other reviews. It romanticizes the setting beautifully. The descriptions of what summer feels like felt so good, those were the summers I grew up with.

I think my problem was two fold: Sadie & Ridge's dynamic isn't my particular jam. I prefer a miserable and/or pathetic man myself (more on this in a moment). Then, not really connecting with main relationship, it felt like I had to slog through the fair middle portion of the book which had A LOT of sex scenes (hey its an erotica, you gotta expect this sort of thing). My lack of interest in the MCs and the mystery and revelations of all else going had me impatient to uncover more. Also Wright. My god that man is miserable in this book and I wanted to know everything about him. At one point I did say out loud "Please stop fucking, I need to know if Wright is ok." (he was fine... sorta)

Anyway, the horror bits of this were just right, and I'm eyeballing the next one because if I've learned anything it's that Wright's suffering is deeply important to me *twirls my hair*.

This book is fucking DARK and intense, but the writing is SO lovely and lyrical, and it's fucking HOT AS HELL.

I am a little disappointed that this doesn't end with Ridge, Sadie, and Wright in a throuple situation - Sadie and Wright's sex scene was probably the hottest one in the book for me. I'll definitely have to read his book.

The sheer number of times I told myself โ€œyou need therapyโ€ while reading this bookโ€ฆ

Okay but seriously, while this book is utterly unhinged, it is also beautifully atmospheric and damn near poetic. The writing features very fluffy prose, which was a bit much for me at times but also unexpectedly pleasant overall.

The body horror is a lot in this book. I canโ€™t say I have much experience with that, so for me it really contributed to Ridgeโ€™s unhinged personality, but I feel like horror lovers would appreciate it.

Every time thereโ€™s a love triangle I feel like the girl never chooses who I want, and this was sadly no different. And Iโ€™m still bitter. ๐Ÿฅฒ

From here on out, THIS is my metric for how spicy a book can be. Gods help us all. ๐Ÿ˜…

This was so awful, I wish I had DNFd. But it was hot in a fucked up way ig

If I can put a gif here it would be any kind of swoon one there is. You should really go into this book blind. If you have triggers please check them. This book is gore and romantic and just so damn sexy at the same time. As soon as I finished this masterpiece I was wished I could read it again for the first time. I read this on my kindle and immediately went looking for a physical copy for my shelf.

Obsession. Is the only world that I could come up with. If I could wear all the words of this book on my skin I would. I have never highlighted so much in my life. I just want to swim in this., breathe this in forever.

Excuse me while I go purchase every Shiloh Sloane Book.
