"Destiny is only foreknowledge of choices you have yet to make."

With The Sweetest Burn, Jeaniene Frost delivers a continuation of the fast paced, action packed, hilarious journey that has become Ivy's life. There is never a dull moment with this bunch, as this book is filled to brim with unexpected plot twists that almost had me screaming and made me read faster to figure out what the hell was going on!

As with the previous book in this amazing series, the humor and world building is outstanding. I laughed out loud at the first page and kept laughing throughout the book. The characters are either using sarcasm or they're too busy to. The action scenes often coincided with further world building, of which the imagery was just amazing. I tip my hat to you, Jeaniene Frost, for your imagination.

I must say I'm very proud of Ivy's character growth in The Sweetest Burn. She stood up for herself, put down some boundaries and started to hold people accountable instead of relying on blind trust. She really came into herself in this book, so much so that she became the leader of the group instead of being led around. I was very proud to see her step up in that way and start taking care of herself and those around her.

Adrian, however, found himself very low in my esteem since the end of The Beautiful Ashes, so he definitely had a way to go. Needless to say, when he decided he wouldn't apologize nor grovel, I was sceptic about how he would come back into my (and Ivy's) good graces. But, ladies and gents, he did it. The things you can obtain by showing up consistently, and using your charms and smooth lines...

But honestly, after all is said and done, we've all got to admit that the real star of the show throughout this whole book was Brutus. I've never loved a pet as much as I've loved him. He made me laugh so much, and his personality brightened my day (even though he would scuff at me for saying he brightened anything!). And an honorable mention needs to go out to Zach, who finally became more than a messenger but also showed his vulnerable side a little and gave us insight into the man.

And then to finish off this review... The epilogue. I repeat: THE EPILOGUE, PEOPLE! Am I the only one who was literally fuming after reading those last few pages? Just when Adrian was back into my good graces... Well, good luck to him. He'll need it to get back on my good side.

I found this slow going and a bit dull in places.I didn't like The Beautiful Ashes and only read this because I've enjoyed so many of her other book but not re-reading meant I was a bit at sea with the plot and all the different characters, powers and bloodlines so I found it confusing in places because I had no idea what was going on, you really would need to remember the basic plot and outline of the world to understand it properly.

I didn't like Ivy and Adrian's relationship last time and I'm not a fan of it this time either. The characters didn't seem to have much depth to their personality and Ivy is so determined to be nice that she nearly gets herself killed a few times (it just seems dumb to risk her life when she's humanity's only hope to try and save like 5 people).

I found the story quite repetitive, it seemed like they kept doing the same thing again and again with minor variations (turn up somewhere looking for the staff and get attacked by demon/minions).

The book just didn't have much going for it for me to enjoy and then it ended with a cliffhanger.

Also is it just me who can only think of the little cute yellow things the second they hear the word minion.

It took me a chapter or two to remember everything that had happened in the 1st book (it was 3 years since I'd read it), but I was quickly pulled back into the world and desperate more for Ivy and Adrian to figure things out than if they discovered the staff. Given how the book ended, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ivy doesn't see Adrian's protection for anything else.

What happened? I remember I enjoyed The Beautiful Ashes, but this sequel... It was much more focused on the romance. It was basically Ivy fan-girling about Adrian with some minor action as filler. The plot was interesting, but felt secondary, because Ivy could not think past her love problems and always came back to them.
I will probably read the next book since it's the last one, but will always recommend Night Huntress series as the best by Jeaniene Frost.

Full review to come, but stellar work from Jeaniene Frost. I liked this one even better than THE BEAUTIFUL ASHES, and found the chemistry between Ivy and Adrian to be electric. The internal conflicts were standout for me as was the romance.

Very much looking forward to book three, because
Spoilerthat epilogue = gut punch.

It breaks my heart to rate this book so low. I love Jeaniene Frost, I mean I LOVE her. I think she is a fabulous writer and I just think she is the sweetest lady... I mean I haven't ever met her but she is so sweet in her interviews and in her blogs.. lol.

Anyways, I kind of didn't like this book at all. I can not stand the heroine. Ivy is a moron. She just found out about this whole other world 6ish months ago and she thinks she knows everything. She yells and tells like the head angel guy that he is wrong and that she could do his job better. She was absolutely obnoxious in this book. I wanted to punch her 99% of this book.

The story line itself was good. They went after the 2nd holy artifact. But I honestly couldn't get past Ivy. Nothing else stood out except how much I disliked her.

I am absolutely going to read the next book. I need to know how it ends but this one just didn't do it for me.
