thrilling story, good twists and plot, but the ending lacked excitement/left much to be desired

I'm really sad that I wasn't able to enjoy this book as thoroughly as I did the first two. I loved the first two books in this series, but the final one just did not seem to measure up.

There was no suspense or mystery or anything...it was all very dull, which was kind of heartbreaking because this was one of my favorite series, but now because of this book, I have to say that it sort of ruined all of the books in this series for me.

I know that the author is planning on writing a spin-off trilogy written from the POV of Noah, but I'm not sure if I would read it just because of how disappointed I am in this book. But we'll see.

I very rarely write reviews, but this forced me to have to write down what I'm feeling. And to sum it all up: WHAT???

I'm gonna be honest right now and say that I have no idea what these books are about. Every single thing that happened intrigued me and blew my mind, but multiple people have asked me what the books are about, and I just shrug because I really don't know how to answer that question.

I really did love this series. I just am not sure how to really work out everything I am feeling. I know I was eager to find out what would happen next. I know I loved how this series was like nothing I have read before. I loved how the plot continued moving and the characters were very intriguing.

However, I did not like how the characters ignored very vital points in the plot (like excuse me, murder?? Fake identities?? Come on people, this isn't something we can just pass over). I didn't like how so much was left unanswered.

I also have no freaking idea what the ending meant. I mean I have a pretty good idea, but I also can't wrap my head around it. I think I may be prematurely trying to dissect this story. I need time to digest what I have just experienced.

So I will end this review with a few things: I loved this series, I need more answers, and there is so much I still need to try and figure out.

9 months to read this book
9 years to finish the series
What a truly YA read that was, I am about 9 years too old for this, so glad it’s finally over

My expectations were higher...
As much as I liked Mara's character in the first two books, I couldn't stand her in this one, she was so annoying and making so many bad decisions that weren't helping her.

Creepy, Scary, Disgusting, Mental but brilliant as always.

"My name's not Mara Dyer, but my lawyer told me I had to choose something."

Yes hi I still have many questions and little answers so how do we proceed

The annoying romance overshadows a lot of the mystery that is happening with their abilities, and I found that annoying.

"This is a love story. Twisted and messy. Flawed and screwed up. But it's ours. It's us. I don't know how our story will end, but I know how it will start."

This story was definitely not your typical fantasy/paranormal/supernatural, people with abilities saving the world from the bad people type of story. It doesn't have the black and white depiction that a lot of stories have (like some persons' perceptions of the world is depicted as).

For me, it was scary, intriguing, dark, mysterious, and beautiful.

I was scared for what was going to happen and how the series would conclude, most importantly, would it be a happy ending? In a way it was and maybe in a way it wasn't but again, it didn't have the black or white depiction. The characters come to terms with what they've been through, who they are, the choices they've made and the choices they are making by the end of the series.

A quote from the book that is a perfect description for what this series shows the reader is:

"I have seen the villainous act heroic, and men called heroes act villainous. The ability to heal does not make one good any more than the ability to kill makes one evil. Kill the right people, and you become a hero. Heal the wrong ones, and you become a villain. It is our choices that define us, not our abilities."

What I take from this is that we are people, we all have good and evil inside of us. What makes us is our choices. Are our choices done in good or in evil?

This book series was filled with a lot of beauty. I picked up this book figuring it would be a contemporary young adult romance novel. I thought it would be about a girl dealing with the grief of losing her friends. I got so so much more. I got beautiful and passionate romance and tears and also I got science and humor and I also got Jamie Roth, one of the most amazing boys in existence.
