This is such a great series. I waited two years for this book, so I took my time reading it because I didn't want it to end soon. I loved this book. There were parts that I loved better but overall it was wonderful.
I'm so happy I finally finished the Mara Dyer series. This series has been my comfort and favorite series ever since I finished the first one, and I absolutely love the paranormal and mystery suspense that led up to this point. I love how these books were planned out like scenes and flashbacks from book 1 were connected to book 3. I just love the thought that went behind these books and everything. I definitely recommend if your looking for a quick read that is full of suspense.
This book confirms all the reasons why I will never be a YA fan. Either the first two books were just better written or I was in a different frame of mind. This was so over the top that it had me questioning why I even liked this series.
I loved this book series, the first one would always be my favorite.
so, it went off the rails a little with its plot but overall still good.
This book held very little resemblance to the other two - so much so that it felt like the first book in a completely different (but slightly related) series.
I loved the way this ended but most of the book was a little slow and the plot wasn't really clear, also Mara annoyed me so much throughout this book. I still love this trilogy and I'm so sad it's finished. I would love to know more,I still have so many questions. Can we all appreciate Jamie for a second? He was my favourite character in this trilogy. Michelle Hodkin I love you.

The time has come. I shall try, to the best of my ability, to rate this book. Now, before I start, a little disclaimer : Even though I am pointing out flaws in this book, this series overall is still one of my all time favorites, and enjoyment-wise, I highly enjoyed it, and would give it a 5 if I only rated for enjoyment. Alas, I do not, and this book did have some issues so let's get on with the review.
Plot- I'm conflicted on this one. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with how it ended. I had my sense of closure, which it what I really look for. I feel like it wrapped up the main story, and for the most part, I understand the "mystery" of the series. I love the overall plot, it's so unique, dark, and mysterious. I think this book still kept that same dark tone, this may be the most gruesome book yet, and I loved it. I loved how at some points I was just like, "Man, she actually went there." I really liked how the overall mystery was wrapped up, albeit some things were a little vague, and some things wrapped up just a little too well. Looking at this book specifically though, there are some questionable moments. Mainly, plot holes- and along with that unanswered questions- and quite a bit of them. When I say unanswered questions, I mean unncessary unanswered questions. There are some things that we still don't know by the end, and I've read Michelle's reasoning on why she left them unanswered, and I respect that. But there are some other things that happened in this book that by the end, were never explained, and I felt like they should've been explained. I won't say specifically, because of spoilers, but some events that happened got resolved, but never elaborated on. Also, I feel like there's a case of the "oh that was convenient", or some things got overlooked in terms of if that situation was actually happening in real life. That happens in a lot of books though, so it's something I always try to mention, but I personally am able to overlook it while reading most of the time. To touch on the ending again, while I did like it, I think it could've been done a tad better, in terms of resolving conflicts dealing with Mara's family. Enjoyment wise, I thoroughly enjoyed this. I read this so quickly, and I never wanted to put it down. I was never bored, and had a great time while I was reading it, and man I was feeling all the feels, and I was bawling at some points.
Writing- No complaints here. I love Hodkin's writing, it can be gritty, hilarious, and beautiful. Her humor is so great, one of my absolute favorites, and she can write dialogue like no other. Also, she can pull out an absolutely breathtaking scene, cough cough see chapter 73 I believe, where it switches POV's during it. Her writing also flows really well, and I never want to stop reading it.
Characters- I absolutely love all of these characters- for the most part. I'll get to that later though. Noah is everything and I love him forever, that is really all I have to say about him. I wish he came in a little earlier in the story though...wishes, wishes...Mara is so crazy, and I love her for it. She went through great character development in the book, and I loved how she wasn't ashamed with her changing morals, because I doubt I would be either. I wasn't really looking at these characters critically to be honest, because I enjoy them so much, I just assumed they would develop fine. So therefore, I really can't comment about any development other than Mara, as her, being the protagonist, is the most obvious. I love Jamie, he's so hilarious, and I think he brought a great "comedic relief" to the novel at some of its darker points. I like how he went through his own moral study through this, and I'm glad he became such a large part of the novel in this book. I also really loved Daniel, he's such a good older brother. He's a little too perfect, okay I'll give you that, but as I've said, I just enjoy him too much to care. I also like how Dr.Kells wasn't what you thought she was necessarily. She was given depth, and she became a bit morally ambiguous, just how I like my villains. I believe the best villains are the ones that make you question if they're really a villain at all. They were all great. What wasn't great, was Stella. I am very disappointed by how Stella was used in this novel, I feel like she was just a throw-away replacement "third member of the team." She didn't really get that much of a personality throughout the book, and her character's arc was so abruptly "solved," if you even want to call it that. I was unimpressed with how she was handled, and how she was at the end of this story. This really saddened me, as I know she has it in her to make great characters, so I don't know why she didn't do that with Stella, the book could have used for a second great female.
Overall- I'm conflicted. I really enjoyed this, but I think it was just because it was a part of this trilogy that I love. Was I disappointed by this? A little, I will admit. When going back after reading it so quickly, when my emotions aren't taking over my brain, I do see its faults. I see that there were some plot and characterization issues, but I enjoyed it nonetheless, so it's still going on my favorites shelf, as a representation of the trilogy as a whole. I still whole-heatedly recommend this trilogy, and I commend it for it's great characters, dark storyline, and such a mysterious/unique plot that I haven't seen done before, but just know that the series finisher is a little lack-luster compared to the other two.
