kung pwede bigyan ngg 10 stars to gagawin ko i swear this is an emotional torture i couldn't even think of a proper thing to say BUT HOLY MOTHER FVKING NOAH ELLIOT SIMON SHAW I EFFIN LOVE YOU <3
Actual rating 3.5 stars.
Premise:
Mara wakes up in a hospital like room, but this time Horizons has shed its facade and is showing it’s true colors. Experimenting, torturing, you name it.
I definitely enjoyed Mara more in this book than the last one. She was fierce, ruthless, and evolved. She seemed to have embraced herself.
The biggest reason I didn’t rate this higher is because I felt like so much was left unanswered.
Maybe I’m too dense to understand it right now, but I guess I just don’t understand what happened. There’s a genetic mutation and some people are carriers and others aren’t. (Okay, I’m following) this mutation causes them to have abilities out of the norm (alright, still with it). Noah’s ability and Mara’s are mirrored (okay). But Mara’s ability always comes with a price. If Noah does what his parents and professor says he could save humanity and eradicate diseases (starting to get lost here). If he stays with Mara he will die (but…why?)
All I’m saying is Noah is rich enough he could probably get a private island and he and Mara live on it for the rest of their lives and no one would be hurt.
Another question, what happened to the grandma? Her last note said she was planning to tell Mara all of this in person someday.
I really did enjoy this trilogy, I just feel like there is a lot of loose ends that I wish were tied up.

The book in itself is good, but I have a few things I want to say about the author.
Ignorance. That is what I found through the trilogy, but not as a whole. It was in a character. Jamie.
I’ll start with the basic shit. Jamie is black. He’s literally the ONLY black character there is, and ofc is a sidekick and provides comedic relief (the usual token black friend.) which is annoying in itself.
The first shit that pissed me off was the Ebola joke attached to Jamie’s character in book one. It’s mentioned in the two later books, but most evident here.
A lot of you may have missed it, but as someone who grew up in the south, I know how to catch these things.
When people think of Ebola, they think of Africa. Jamie, who is an African-American, and AGAIN the ONLYY black character tells this joke many times, referring to him telling the other students that he has Ebola, despite it not even being funny. It’s racism, and it’s not a coincidence that it went to his character above all others.
Second thing I caught : in the third book, specifically. The officer who found Jamie says ‘his name was Jamal or something.’ BFFR. Jamal is a name that is used in (I won’t say racist) but definitely an ignorant way by other races when they refer to black boys. And I don’t want to hear ‘the names are alike; they can easily get confused.’
Yeah, no.
‘His name was Jeremy, Jacob, jasper…’ etc.. ANY of those could have been used, but instead, the author chooses the mistaken name as ‘Jamal’ AGAIN for the ONLY black character there is.
I enjoyed this series as a whole, but I’m not an idiot. And author, I’m talking directly to you. You used these jokes to push a funny, black token friend narrative that was only offensive and showed your ignorance about a couple of things. Educate yourself, before someone else has to do it for you.

Fantastic. Plot twists galore. This is one book I envy others for not having read, simply because they will get the pleasure of reading it for the first time!!
i am so happy yet so devastated that i finished maras trilogy
I had to stop reading this book a bit of the way through cause it was due at the library and I couldn't renew it so I don't exactly remember what I thought of the first part. But I'm pretty sure I was just reading it so I could actually finish the series and know what happened in the end. It was ok. I don't really like how the author chose to end it. I mean I guess it could've ended up that way but after all they kept saying throughout the books and then it was like that didn't even matter. I wasn't very attached to the book.
I was so confused throughout the ending but I think that is just because I am not very bright. MARASHAW
holy shit I just didn't expect to love this books as much as I do.
they are just so so good, I loved the story, the characters, the freaking plot twits. there was something so amazing about everything, even in the points were I knew what was going to happen.
And can we please talk about the perfection that is Noah Shaw, gosh I love that boy
Honestly I really enjoy reading this books and now I finish them I don't know what to do with my life
