I was really hesitant to read this book because I HATED Taddeo's fiction novel, "Animal." I am so glad I gave this a chance. It was such an interesting concept of following three women's lives in relation to sex and desire and what it means to different people. Well written and very moving. My only complaint is I wish there was more commentary around their stories

Thank you, @spagelli for this rec. I initially thought this was a novel and just hadn’t gotten around to it. The way this book talks about love and lust and desire and womanhood was just so gut-wrenching. Please be careful reading this one as there are many content warnings for the story of these three women who are all shamed for being women with desires
Graphic: Rape
First of all the book is something very different than it is said to be. Check out other reviews for more on this point and why it's an issue. If I was blinded I might give it two stars for the writing itself, because I did to some extent feel I got engaged in these womens lives and I therefore wanted to keep on reading to see how they ended up. But I've got so many big issues with this book I just couldn't.
1. The author introduces the book with victim-blaming her mother. Wtf?!
2. Furthermore the book is romanticising statutory rape, not to talk about the fact that Taddeo in a book about female desire and sexuality tells the terribly sad story of Maggie (the statutory rape victim). A story that absolutely should be told, but not in a book like this.
3. Then there's the barely mentioned point that these three women are very alike, white middle class women.
4. Absolutely ZERO representation and or discussion on BIPOC or queer women (okay one of the characters sometimes has sex with women and mentions that she prefers it, but that's it).
5. I didn't like the novel-form the book is written in. Whilst reading it I kept forgetting that I was reading non-fiction. And it's written by a journalist.... I wished for analyses and reflections around these womens sexual lives and experiences, at least some discussion on female sexuality in a male-dominated world, but in stead I got lots of awkwardly detailed soft-porn (which btw is wayyy to detailed to be non-fictional).
6. I can't be bothered to continue, as there are many good and critical reviews on this book. <3

Why do authors copy each other? This is about three women and the way she lays it out is every third chapter is about one of the women. There’s no tie in between the three women so there’s no point in writing the book. This way I chose to read it by completing one story and then going to the next.
