Zora Books Her Happy Ever After

I Picked Up This Book Because: Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: BC Public Library
Dates Read: 8/2/24 - 8/5/24
Rating: DNF - No Rating
Narrator(s): Adenrele Ojo

The Characters:

Zora:
Reid:
Lawrence:
Emma, Grandma

The Story:
Other than the annoying grandmother I can’t really point out a reason I don’t want to finish this book. I’m just not interested in 98% of what is happening. I got my answer about the other 2% from someone else’s review.

Boring and predictable. It’s so frustrating to watch this supposedly super smart protagonist not realize what’s going on in front of her. The book doesn’t have super strong structure, either, so when you’re not rolling your eyes at the main character, you’re sighing over how boring the story is. I think the author might have been better off writing a reimagining of Sherlock with Zora as the main character, or even a period piece like Bridgeton. That way, there would have been a clearer plot structure for this book to follow, rather than just Zora going on dates and planning for an event. The romance isn’t compelling, either, since
Zora continues to date both men until the very end.
And don’t even get me started on the cheesy poetry.

This just didn’t work on some many levels. There was a lot of telling us. And some of the details were so odd? Do I need to know what everyone is wearing? Do o need to know everyone’s coffee order? Also it didn’t sell the HEA for me.
Reid and Zora didn’t have chemistry and o was honestly upset at how she stuck her nose in his business and then he had to make it up to her?? So disappointed.

I wasn’t gone give a verbal review, just put my stars and go, but baby this was…I don’t want to say bad, just not good. I’ve read a million books where the main character annoyed me but this woman here was worse than a teenage YA white girl. Ma’am how you blow up somebody’s NDA then get mad at them cause they didn’t tell you, all the while YOU ARE DATING BEST FRIENDS!!! Then once you blow up buddy spot, you then tell him I can’t date you cause idk how many more secrets you have. Girl what?! You mad at this man cause he not willing to go bankrupt and tell you some shit, when, once again, YOU ARE DATING AND FUCKING HIS BEST FRIEND ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! I can’t. I can not. I was cool with the date who you want theme UNTIL homegirl lost her damn mind. Then HE had to jump through 16 hoops to get her back and kept apologizing, even though HE WASN’T WRONG. Like with most of my reviews, I’ll say this, read this if you want, just don’t be surprised if you feel your time and money were wasted. Thank god I got this from the library cause I’d be asking for a refund.

It was cute but a bit predictable. It was spicier than I thought based on the cover and synopsis! I loved the dynamic between the three gals but didn’t need to hear about great grandbabies 500 times…
