Some of the short stories were a slower read, some very enjoyable and light-hearted. Some had excellent character development, some didn't necessarily. Just the same, the writing is excellent.

I would of finished this book way quicker had I not gone between audiobook, physical book, audio book and then back to physical book again. Also, I was kind of re-reading half the book because some of the short stories were also featured in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Six Other Stories’ which I read last year. Aside from that, I found the book an enjoyable and easy read.

The better of the two Fitzgerald collections I have read this year. (TALES OF THE JAZZ AGE being the other which I liked but did have a couple clunkers in it.) His language is often gorgeous.
"And in front as a great mellow bell boomed the half -hour a swarm of black, human leaves were blown over the checker-board of paths under the courteous trees."
“This is the beauty I want. Beauty has got to be astonishing, astounding-- it's got to burst in on you like a dream, like the exquisite eyes of a girl.”
“This unlikely story begins on a sea that was a blue dream, as colorful as blue-silk stockings, and beneath a sky as blue as the irises of children's eyes. From the western half of the sky the sun was shying little golden disks at the sea--if you gazed intently enough you could see them skip from wave tip to wave tip until they joined a broad collar of golden coin that was collecting half a mile out and would eventually be a dazzling sunset.”
“Resignedly and with difficulty Tom removed the cigar—that is, he removed part of it, and then blew the remainder with a whut sound across the room, where it landed liquidly and limply in Mrs. Ahearn’s lap.”
All moments I loved. Every story a gem. Humor, heart and often with devastating insight.

I read Flappers and Philosophers by Fitzgerald and here is my final statement 🌅
- The Offshore Pirate 4/5 (revived my childhood dream to become a pirate)
- The Ice Palace 3/5 (confused me but then again had horror elements, so I liked it)
- Head and Shoulders 3/5 (the male ego... That's all I say)
- The Cut-Glass Bowl ?/5 (honestly I have no idea what happend, my brain straight out deleted everything)
- Bernice Bobs Her Hair 4/5 (hah, it was savage, love ittt)
- Benediction 4/5 (ummm... Idk - the siblings were just funny to watch interacting)
- Dalyrimple Goes Wrong 2/5 (plain boring tbh)
- The Four Fists 3/5 (solidddd, good concept imo)

An eclectic mix of works from F.Scott Fitzgerald.
A lot just didn't really land with me while some I could read full books of in one sitting.
A lot just didn't really land with me while some I could read full books of in one sitting.
