Though well written, I didn’t like this one as much as I had hoped to. I feel that “Sorrow and Bliss” and “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” approached similar themes in a way that I either empathized with or was more entertained by (or both)  the protagonist. Maybe that was the point of this one, and though I didn’t dislike it,  I also didn’t love it.

parts of this were hard to read because they were such a good depiction of mental illness, really well done. but the dialogue was odd - all the main characters had the exact same quippy bantery dialogue between them, and then occasionally someone would do a Moral Message in monologue form which felt odd. the ending also felt like it was trying too hard to explain the point of the book, which i think it had done a good job of and it didn't need.

Some incredibly accurate and hard-hitting descriptions of mental illness and depression.
A couple of bits where I was so angry at the main character!
A bit repetitive in the middle but then the depths of depression are repetitive so it sort of worked.
Overall I liked this book, I would recommend it but only to people on a good headspace.

Firstly, please check trigger warnings as topics of suicide ideation, self harm and drugs is discussed in this book.

I went into this book blind, it is a very difficult one to rate. In a way I knew how the book was going to end but thought the author was able to portray the complexes of depression in modern life. Loneliness is something which is usually associated with old age and not something which people would associate with adult life so it was interesting to read and how this transpired in someone who on the outside had it all.

It was 200 hundred pages too long and I really love flawed female characters but the book felt very repetitive and pseudo deep. I can see and appreciate some parts especially the ones that give a bit of insight about mental illnesses but I couldn't vibe with it sadly.
