There were so many things that I loved about this book so I’ll just mention a few of the more significant ones. It’s a fast-paced read with super relatable and realistic characters that I found myself rooting for from the beginning. I really enjoyed the mystery element to the love story and although I did correctly guess who ‘Blue’ was, Albertalli did keep me guessing throughout. The switch between the first-person narration and the Simon-Blue emails during the course of the narrative worked well and was not jarring at all. There are also some really lovely golden nuggets of writing threaded throughout that made the whole story that much more enjoyable to read. I also loved how the novel doesn’t just end as soon as you find out Blue’s identity, and that you get to see the beginning of Simon’s happily ever after.

There are quite a few major characters in this novel and while many are well developed—such as Simon, Blue, Leah, and Abby—I felt as though characters such as Nick are kind of lost in the narrative as they’re not as strongly developed. On a more personal note, I really disliked Martin and I felt like he deserved some kind of consequence but that’s just my personal opinion more than anything.
