After watching (and falling in love with) the film two years ago I was desperate to read the book that had inspired it. It was so worth the wait! Simon vs. the Homo-Sapien Agenda is a funny and heartwarming coming of age story as Simon comes to terms with his sexuality, confiding in a complete stranger.

Simon was just hilarious with his intense love of Oreos (which I absolutely relate to), theatre kid ways and classic one-lines. A last minute entry of “so at least one of my sisters are getting murdered” stole my heart, with a special shout out to ‘Monkey’s Asshole. Also, I just really really really love Blue.

I also cannot avoid mentioning Michael Crouch’s narration for the audiobook. The range!!! Becky Albertalli excels in sharing the story of a debatably cynical, awkward and hilarious character as him and his friends go through the many common and valid struggles of teenage life.

I don’t know how I loved the re-read of this even more but I did.  The emails were iconic and all the little things they talked about being mentioned later on, like the oreos for example.

This was just such a cute and funny read that I didn’t even know how comforting it was to read until years later re-reading it.  The characters were so detailed and loveable.  Simon’s humor was everything.

I finished this book in one sitting. I stayed up until 3 AM reading this and I am loving every second of it! The novel is so light and the pace is fast and it is funny! I actually laughed out loud a lot while reading this. The story is so cute and fluffy. I think it deals with the issues it trying to discuss really well, it even mentioned that chic-fil-a is homophobic lol which I appreciate. It's a coming of age story and a love story, basically circling around the pressure of coming out, friendship, and family. I love it so much.

If I had to criticize it, I think it's that this book is not very descriptive. I always try to picture how the characters look like in my head when I read something, but with this book it's a bit hard to do because what it tells you is just that: character A and B is black, and the rest we have to assume that they're white. One other tinyyy thing: Nick, Simon's best friend since childhood, had barely any personality or any relationship with Simon, so it often feels like he's just a classmate that hangs out with them and is straight and has a nice voice and that's it and I feel like there should be more there since he's the best friend.
