If he was this upset about what was going on during the Bush era, I'm kind of glad he didn't have to live through the past 4 years.

"There is no reason good can't triumph over evil, if only angels will get organized along the lines of the mafia."
"We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different."
"I say of Jesus as all humanists do, 'If what he said is good, and so much of it is absolutely beautiful, what does it matter is he was God or not?'"
"In case you haven't noticed, we also dehumanized our own soldiers, not because of their religion or race, but because of their low social class. Sent 'em anywhere. Make 'em do anything."
"I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.'"

If I could have a dinner party with any person, dead or alive, it would be Kurt Vonnegut. If he wasn't already geriatric when he wrote this book, I would have assumed the government offed him due to his candor.

“And if I die -God forbid- I would like to go to heaven to ask somebody in charge up there hey what was the good news and what was the bad news?”

Some of my favorite commentary on life, Americans, and humans relationships with both themselves and their land.

I might have rated this higher if reading it at a different time. More of a chat about his own horror at the state of politics and environmental destruction he was witnessing in 2004. Doesn't make you feel too optimistic given the current state of things. Blurgh.

this book reads like vonnegut is your grandpa, sitting you down at the dinning room table for some wit and wisdom. it's a really quick read too.

This book is what I imagine Creed's word document would look like from the scene about his "blog" on The Office. The inside of the book jacket literally describes this as an "intimate and tender communication." No idea what he was talking about for at least 50% of it, but it was somehow still sweet anyways.
