This series started off a little rough for me, but I enjoyed the last two books and was really looking forward to this one. The inevitable relationship between Landon and Emmy has been teased the whole time and they were the characters I felt most invested in. I was disappointed to find out this was just a novella and not a full length novel, but was still happy to get anything. Unfortunately, I was left kind of underwhelmed by it.

While I did like that the pace was fast and there were some cute moments between Landon and Emmy, the relationship arc was really lacking for me. Once they got together everything just happened so fast. I wanted to see them ease into things a little more instead of one day they were just friends (secretly in love with each other) and the literal next day they're talking about marriage. I also would have liked to get to know each of them a little better, since they were more side characters in previous books. Speaking of which, I was also disappointed that the story was set away from the rest of their team from the initial books and the other characters were barely involved. I wanted more closure for a series ender. Also, I thought the big reveal of Landon's "dark past" that he thought was shameful enough to keep him from being good enough for Emmy was pretty ridiculous (*Spoiler Alert - it involved an accident that happened when he was FIVE YEARS OLD)

I also thought the writing quality was a little lacking, compared to previous books by this author. Once I got to the Acknowledgements, I found out that this is the author's first indie book and is not traditionally published like the others have been. I definitely felt like the lack of editor was evident here.

Overall, I am still glad we got Landon and Emmy's story, even if it wasn't quite what I wanted.

I have been waiting for Emmy and Logan’s book for 4 years!  Ever since reading the first book in the series.  I. Have. Been. Waiting.  And I confess, I was pretty bummed when I saw it was “just” a novella.  But after reading it, I stand corrected.  A novella was perfect for them!
So if you’ve read the other books in the series, you’ve probably been following these characters as long as I have.  If you haven’t, then stop, go get those books, read them, wait 4 years, and then come back.  Just kidding.  But seriously, go get the other books.  So after following them through the prior books, their relationship and how it all plays out, works perfectly.  It didn’t seem unnatural or rushed.  And given that, I honestly probably would have been frustrated with them, had they been given a full-length novel to finally figure it out.  So, well done, Ms. Pettrey!
Though I hated seeing the end of the series, it ended well.  And I’m excited to see what comes next!

*My thanks to the author and publisher for my advanced copy of this book!  I was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise, and have not been compensated for it in any way.  All opinions expressed are my own.

I loved this novella! The Shifting Current is a fast-paced Christian romantic suspense book and I could not put it down!  I loved the main characters Emmy and Logan and loved their relationship. There was so much action and mystery packed into this short book and I loved every second of it. This is book 3.5 in the Coastal Guardians series, and I love that you can read it as a standalone! This was my first book by Dani Pettrey and it definitely won’t be my last! I definitely recommend picking this one up!
