A book about grief and the ways that we learn that the people we loved aren’t always who we thought they were. A tough read that was slow to start but ended beautifully.

Good! I think overall it’s a well written story with an important message that evokes emotion and feeling within the reader. I did find it a little repetitive in terms of the story and the events, but that is to be expected when telling the story of one’s grief and the cycle of emotions you go through, I just think it’s something to bite for those wanting to pick up this book. I found Marin’s growth to be very touching and real to what grief and what all its lows feel like, as well as when she finally feels that unforgettable high that provides her the closure she needs to remember but move on. Overall a nice, reflective read.

This was strikingly beautiful. I didn’t expect to be taken by it like I did. The book masterfully took me along the journey of Marin’s emotions and I could feel so much with her.
The characters and their relationships were incredibly thought through and every detail seemed to work together. I’m so impressed by the execution of this.

This was a really difficult book to read, but I read it at the perfect moment in my life. I recently lost my grandpa(thankfully not like how it was in the book), so it was really important for me to read this about grief. I really liked the main character and how she dealt with her grief and all she found out about her grandfather. I enjoyed seeing her relationship with Mabel change, but still be very important. I also liked the ending and it was bittersweet.

A beautiful, sad, thoughtful character-driven story about grief and loneliness. I liked the characters and the fact that the book didn’t shy away from or hold back on the painful depths of the grief Marin was feeling, while also giving us glimpses of how she was working her way towards being ok in little moments and steps.
