I'm a little concerned that this whole series involves a lot of sexual assault and rape via coercion and deception.
This is especially true because the coercive sexy times are often used as forms of introduction and/or deepening of feelings (the spontaneous increase in intensity of romantic attraction still doesn't seem like natural growth to me but as a random plot point/progression). Unexpectedly, I think this book has been the least problematic of the few so far, despite starting with a form of assault/rape (not a spoiler as it's literally in the premise). Go figure.

I liked this book, but not as much as I did the previous two books. I just couldnt figure out how a genious got herself into the situation of using a guy to unknowingly father a child for her. That was my biggest problem with this book. After that, I really did enjoy the book and the fireworks between the two main characters. There were quite a few moments that made me laugh out loud and I cried at the ending.
I loved the beginning—morally gray and brilliant FMC and a MCM who has every right to loathe the FMC. The banter was great, the characters fun, the physics delightful, 5 stars, etc. Loved it. That said, the story line from 68-90% was slow, with lot of groveling. Which may be your thing but is not mine. bonus points for the pregnancy being in the background without the gritty pains of day-to-day life described.

Well, it was bound to happen. At some point, I would come across a book from SEP that I didn't love. Though the writing was at the same level and I even kind of liked Jane as a heroine, I couldn't get over some of the more...um let's call them old views that SEP books sometimes portray.
I can usually slide past them. In this one though, the book starts with Jane, our heroine, intentionally trying to trick Cal, our hero, into impregnating her (and, I mean if she just seduced him with that hope it would be bad enough, but messing with the condom? really?). Even if you get over that, you have to deal with Cal's alpha behavior. And really, even the revenge storyline was kinda dropped and nothing really came of it. Also, Jane realizing she fell in love with Cal came sooo suddenly. It wasn't built up enough.
I did like Cal's parents side story- SEP usually has some side stories in her books and this one revolved around the failing marriage of the hero's parents. I will say, that one was a good part of the book.
All in all...not my favorite SEP book.

I want to say it's a product of its time, but that feels false. It just seems bad. The writing was a little clunky and both of them did not seem great. My favorite character was Annie. It kind of came together at the end, but it was rough getting there.
2.5 stars- audiobook (excellent narration)
Sports, egos and aging, something I can relate too. The sneaky sperm stealing devious action, made me angry. It was nice to read a book about more mature people dealing with age changes. The characters aren't middle aged, but in that between time from after reaching career success and before middle age, the forgotten time. I would have loved it if Jane hadn't done what she did. I had very mixed feelings about this book.
Cal, is a football quarterback who loves his women young fresh and dewy. He refuses to accept the fact that his quarterback days are dwindling and < gasp > he is aging out of his job. He's used and it pissed me off.
Jane is a super brained scientist who desperately wants a child before her eggs dry up. Her background was traumatized by being too smart so she wants the father to be a mentally dimmed person in good health. She's a self centered, person with only her goal in mind. An encounter with a less that scrupulous person leads her into the bed of Cal, the dim witted footballer. This part of the story had me fuming in anger ! After tricking him into bed, she altered the condom so she could steal his sperm. It didn't take the first time so she set's things up to steal from him a second time. Yes, I'm fuming now, this was an unforgivable action.
She becomes pregnant, he finds out, he moves into action. Jane. she acts like she's the injured one in this party. I couldn't have disliked her more, and never warmed up to her. I enjoyed his family, they held this story together for me and were the reason I finished it. Granny, she is just hilarious and tough.
I found the pregnancy thief so disgusting I couldn't get over that to accept the rest of the story.

I really tried with this one because Fated Mates podcast raves about it, but as someone who came to romance around 2016, it did not work for me. This book was written in 1997 and it shows.
They’re both horrible to each other. She tampers with a condom to get pregnant without his knowledge. He’s emotionally abusive, making threats and constantly doing stuff like backing her into a corner, she says stop, and he blocks her in more. I don’t need to read this.
