This book has a great premise, and the writing is good. You definitely wouldn’t predict the ending from the get go, and it’s interesting seeing current and past timelines weaved together.

My mind was all over the place with this. By the time I got almost all the way through, I realized I was reading the second perspective from the wrong person. However, it kept me guessing on what was happening and who was the person responsible.

I knew what was going on in the first few chapters. Couldn’t quite get used to the disconcerting narrative but still an enjoyable suspense.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Lies We Bury by Elle Marr is a frightening tale with intrigue, horror, and learning to deal with your past.

Will Claire figure out who is doing the tunnel killings before she ends up being suspected or the next victim?

Marissa "Claire" Mo

Claire is our main character. She isn't perfect. In fact, she is far from perfect. Sometimes just dealing with her own memories is more than she can fathom. Claire wants to have a normal life like everyone else. But because of her past, she isn't granted that luxury. She can't seem to get in front of her origin story.

I like Claire from the beginning. I felt so bad for her. Not just her past but how she can't seem to move on without being judged by everyone. But it is her inner demons that she truly needs to learn to deal with.

The Mystery

Lies We Bury CRThere are three murders in Portland, Oregon, where the underground tunnels have all been used in one way or another. The author ties in Portland's local history into the story brilliantly. The culprit is setting up Claire, although she doesn't figure that out until the end. The author spins the tale beautifully to keep us off the trail of the real killer.
