It was good, but pretty obvious that it's based on a motion picture. It felt very jumpy, the scenery was hard to follow because of not having described certain things which are obvious in a film. For example, in a movie you can easily see what freaking wig they are talking about, but in the book they hadn't even mentioned any wig until it suddenly served some purpose in the intese action scene. Yeah, a bit jumpy because it is based on a movie, that is my guess at least.

I was not very happy about the alternative ending of the Death Note live action films, defeating Light and giving L 23 days to live. I think it was more thought out in the manga and I definitely liked L's death more in that version - as well as Light's. Because in the manga, L does not fool Light like that, obviously. Light is not defeated that early in the series, he couldn't be because in the manga it is proved that Light simply got the best of L, and Near and Mello were left to form two halves of a better L - thus defeating Kira. I REALLY liked that ending, even if I still grieve L (L~ ;__; <3).

Okay, enough about the manga. This was an okay/good book, I really liked the scene where L is chasing after the car but has to stop because it hurts too much to keep going. It showed some more perspective of L's personality and lifestyle, which is not described in the manga. How it hurts to see so many people live, how it's a heavy burden to live and how it might have effected L's insomniac behaviour. I really liked it, it put some humanity into the character, even if it is debatable whether his behaviours actually have anything to do with this. Comparing L, Mello and Near... yeah, it's a possible explanation.

The jumpy scenery and writing didn't quite do it for me, but I did like the idea of showing some of L's humanity. L is one of my favourite characters in Death Note, so it was interesting to read. But not extemely exciting... So, yeah, 3 stars.

As a fan of Deathnote I was very excited to pick up this novel. Visually it's a beautiful book, the cover and overall presentation of it is simply amazing, however the novel itself left much to be desired.
I found the story to be extremely choppy and all over the place, and it just didn't catch my attention like I thought it would. As a fan of Deathnote though, it was a worthwhile read for the greater insight into L's final days, and this is really all the story has to offer. Personally I think that Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases is the much more interesting and accomplished of the Deathnote spin-off novels.

That's it. Selesai. Tamat.

Near... or Next.

Nb. Cover art-nya cuantik sekali. Kusuka. HC pulak :)

It's been a while since I've watched this film but reading this was still heartwrenching. It might not be the best written novel but if you're interested in the Death Note universe and liked this film then it is well worth the read.
