Broody MMC!
He was infatuated with her singing and that was just so cute! Great read if you want quick and easy romantasy. The world building wasn’t too confusing. I love the fact that he was broody and borderline almost mean to her but turned into a softie afterwards. Off to read the next book because I need to be back in this world.

You do not need to read book 1 to understand book 2. You just have a better understanding of the magic system and world, if you do. This story had elements that reminded me of Cinderella, but I wouldn't consider it a retelling. I love the story of her parents and how she cherished her mother's things. I really enjoyed the mystery of her husband and their banter throughout. It had a feel of found family.
My favorite scenes are the ones when they are together in the mansion at the beginning, the lake scene, and the fight with the king. I don't think anything in this story surprised me, but it was pleasurable to read. It felt like a cozy fantasy to me, in comparison to my usual reads.
As far as spice, I would consider this a slow burn, high romance. There are a few open door scenes, but nothing overly graphic or spicy spicy.
I think this would be great for anyone that loves fantasy and wants to dip their toes into the romance side. It doesn't have many dark elements/themes, but if you are sensitive to reading things about parent loss, I would skip this read as there are mentions of them processing parent loss throughout the story. The writing is similar to book 1.

Honestly it really struggled to grip me. I'm disappointed because I loved the previous book so much!
