I’m mostly disappointed because I picked this up thinking it would be sexy trash, but it’s mostly just trash. SIGH.
I really wanted to finish this book because everyone I follow seems to love it but UGH I don't hate myself that much to suffer through another half of this.
First of all the writing. I don't want to say it was bad because everyone writes differently but I really did not like it. So repetitive.
Then there's the story. So much potential, but barely anything happened in the first 55% of the book. Also, I didn't buy the whole "I'm going to another universe because I want adventure"
The heroine felt way too childish at times (considering she was 30-years-old) and I hated how everyone was making all the decisions for her and then she just went along with them like "oh well". She kept asking for permission from her husband and it annoyed the hell out of me.
Also, I like an alpha male as much as the next gal, but there is a line between being an alpha male and being controlling and obsessive and a jerk. And it is not a fine-line. At all. And the hero in this book crossed it more than a few times.
I could mention all the scenes that had me rolling my eyes out but that would mean giving even more time to this book so no thanks

Should have given it 2 stars. I wanted to like it but the borderline rape/coercion and control themes made it anything but sexy.....
I should have DNF'd this book.
I loathed Frey. I can't remember the last time I hated the love interest this much.
Okay so Finnie gets transferred to this world and is forced to marry him. He immediately treats her terribly and leaves her alone in a filthy cabin in the freezing cold for 6 weeks. Fine, whoever her twin was must have done something really bad...Nope. Actually the only thing the twin did was be gay and flee to a whole different ass world to have her freedom!! And they make a point to say "oh well he is normally fine with gay people, he's just upset he's marrying her and she doesn't want him" Well then he clearly has no empathy at all. Then throughout the story, they villainize this other twin and don't try to see things from her POV whatsoever. He claims the twin commited treason! And tells her parents that if she comes back, she'll be executed. The twin's parents and friends completely write the twin off. There are barely any comments about missing her and they accept that she's gone forever without a second thought.
Alright, then his biggest crime is early in the story. He binds Finnie to this world without giving her feelings a single thought. Fine, it's early in the story. He's obviously going to be remorseful as soon as he gets to know her. He'll confess out of guilt and they'll break the bind...Nope. There is no shred of remorse from him. He cuts her off from her entire future, feels no guilt, and he actively keeps her from finding out from the other witches.
Throughout the story, he makes horrible sexist comments. He tells her if they have daughters, they won't be taught to fight or won't be allowed to wear pants. He explains to her that he's royalty and he can fool around with whoever and as a woman she just has to deal with it. He declares himself above servants and the rest of society. Then he is a total asshole and has the woman he was fooling around with serve them all dinner to flaunt it in front of Finnie. The story makes it to be her fault and he never apologizes for his actions. Oh! And her mom gives her a speech that is basically "if you don't put out, he'll go elsewhere".
His next crime - He switches her birth control for a placebo to get her pregnant without her consent! It made me want to throw up. And when she's pregnant, he tries to control her and limit all her activities. They also make a point to say that they will have to keep having kids until they have a son to take the throne. Finnie is from our world, where is her feminism?! Why isn't she pushing for society changes?!
So he finally gets exposed for all of this - Finnie screams at him but as she's yelling a battle breaks out and he "dies". When they are reunited, she apologizes to him profusely. I was livid, screaming at her to run for the hills. Then in the end, he brings one of her friends from the other world to visit and somehow, that makes up for everything. I just hate him from the depths of my soul.
The only nice thing I have to say is the concept is interesting. I wish we alternated stories between the twins. I would have liked to learn how the twin's experience was going on earth.
The other books focus on different couples but I'm scarred from this book and I will not be continuing.

Wow, did I forget to review this back in december 2015? It's now March 2016 and I'm currently reading book 2 in this series, so I came back here to refresh my memory on what I thought with book 1, but it just said Review to come. Ugh, why?! Mel, why do you do these things to yourself? I really can't remember what I thought about it now. All I remember is I liked this book, but I wasn't in love with it. I had a few problems with Frey as a main character, and I'm not really into alpha males (unless you count Jamie Frasier from Outlander and now Dax Lahn from book 2 of this series, then I'm SO into them.)
But anyways, good book, not great. Preferring the sequel, that I'm currently reading and LOVING. Am impressed with Kristen Ashley's writing style though. Not perfect but entertaining and flow's very well.

I don't know why it took me so long to read this book. I guess I just had to be in the mood but...OMG...I LOVED Finnie!
I liked this book least of all the Kristen Ashley books I have read. I liked Frey he sounded ... well it worked for me, but nothing else really did, Finnie was a bit lame, the relationship moved at beyond warp speed.
Also it is kind of getting on my nerves how every Kristen Ashley leading lady talks the exact same way, everything is Kick Ass,totally awesome and killer When I first read [b:Rock Chick|6538757|Rock Chick (Rock Chick, #1)|Kristen Ashley|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327912999s/6538757.jpg|6730978]and Indy and Ally spoke like this I found it endearing but now after like 10 of Kristen Ashley's books its a bit stale. As a rule I tend to skim over what the wardrobe will be, scratch that what the "killer wardrobe" will be, no matter what there will be a huge fucking belt and some huge hair.
please don't get me wrong I love Kristen Ashley's books and her alpha male heroes are second to none, but I just wish the ladies were bit more diverse, and also if their heads aren't up their asses that would be good too. Yes I am looking at you Finnie, Jet and Stella.

I first bought these books over ten years ago and recently I discovered them again on my Kindle and decided on a re-read because I needed some easy reading and I remembered enjoying them when I first read them. Getting back into this series has been very interesting, mostly in seeing what a difference that ten years of life experience has had on my perceptions of these stories. What I once thought was a brilliant series just hit a little differently this time around, some were not as bad as others but I was a little stuck on the message that these stories feed to women, especially if you were to come across them at an impressionable stage in your life.
Wildest Dreams starts out well. It is exciting and an interesting concept. Our main character, Finnie, decides to go on the ultimate adventure to a parallel world. She has found a witch who can help her switch places with her twin in that world. It doesn't quite go to plan because her twin hasn't been entirely upfront about the switch, and Finnie finds herself getting married to Frey Drakkar.
For the most part, I found this book quite enjoyable, I loved the setting, the wintery country Lunwyn felt magical, and for the most part, I liked Finnie, even though I sometimes found her turn of phrase a little annoying and repetitive. She is put in a hard situation and she tries to make the best of it and she does have this kind of constant joyful outlook because of her thirst for adventure.
Frey is a slightly different story, he is your typical alpha male to start quite brooding and distant, but as he gets to know Finnie he does become more charming but also starts to make decisions about her life without telling her, which is where this book starts to lose its way for me. I think what really annoyed me though was that eventually Finnie just completely forgives him for these things which I just could not understand. Why would you be totally ok with someone altering the course of your life? It was also very brushed over as if love outweighs all sense of reason, so there's no reason to be angry any more.
I did enjoy the adventure and political intrigue throughout this story but it was let down by the relationship aspect.
