I really loved this story and wish it was a duology or series in of itself.
I really liked Princess Finnie. She was funny and quick witted. I also liked that she never developed any miraculous powers. She in essence was more realistic on how a girl would react in a fantasy world. She was a super likable character.
Frey our hero on the other hand, I had a love/hate relationship with. I just felt like his character was inconsistent at times. The dragon and elf lord stuff was awesome! His sweet moments were super swoon worthy, but then we’d get these random scheming and fights where his personality changed so much.
The cat, Sky, Kel, her maidens, his men, her parents, and more were all lovable side characters. I really enjoyed them!
Okay I’m going to give my dislikes now…
1) The pace of this book was all over the place. It made it hard to read at points.
2) At one point they have one of the cringiest fights I’ve ever read. It didn’t fit either of their personalities and felt so out of place.
Finnie (who is not a virgin herself) gets irrationally mad about a girl Frey slept with before he ever met her. She snaps at him.
Frey responds by being irrationally mad. He basically says he can sleep with whoever he wants. Like in present tense. Then at dinner asks for that girl from his past to come to their table.
This is where Finnie’s anger turned justified to me because rude.
Basically her “mom” is like yeah they can do that so make sure he’s happy in bed or he will cheat. Wtf?
I get it’s a fantasy world but that alone would be it for me. You have to be faithful to your husband but he can do what he wants?
This fight is not talked out either. He ignores her for weeks and then just tells her he’s going away for months. She cries and he sees and they have sex. All is better…
That whole scene (from the fight to the sex) should have been scrapped. There are a million other ways to establish Viola as a jealous ex lover than with that humiliation of a shit show.
3) Frey makes two major decisions without informing Finnie. Which was dumb because if he would have just spoke to her about them she would have gotten onboard.
But the way she finds out is so weird. A witch from her world shows up and snitches on Frey like a tattle tale. There was no reason behind her telling her. She deserved to know, yes! But this was a weird way to go about it.
She then confronts him about it, as she should. And before they can really talk it out, there’s an attack.
So this just gets swept away later in the story.
This whole part of the story should have been cleaned up and done better.
This was the first book in this series. I’m hoping the editing gets better as these books continue. The concept is incredible and literally Finnie and Freys story could have been an incredible series on their own.

I’m excited to find another Kristen Ashley series I can race through. This was enjoyable discovering a new world through Finnie’s eyes.
I enjoy that her romances are generally well spoken and that there is strength for both partners, but also the willingness to hear and learn from one another.

Interesting fantasy/romance mix. A young woman who last her parents discovers that there is an alternate realm where everyone has a twin. For the right price a witch can switch you out if the twin is willing.
The h arrives in her new reality on her wedding day. Much confusion and hijinx ensue as the groom hates her counterpart. There are fairy tale elements and dragons and political machinations.
Enjoyable start to a series of connected books.

Before this book I only read contemporary romances from Kristen Ashley. I like most of them but really the works of this author are either a hit or a miss for me. A couple of years ago I would have said that these kind of books are more u pin my alley but nowadays it’s not true anymore yet I still enjoyed it more than her contemporary books.
Wildest dream presents a really funny, adventurous and romantic world where surprises lurk and wait in every corner for the protagonist. It’s a big plus for me that there is a kind of time travel/ world jumping thread in the plot. I love when a modern gal has to adapt into the customs of some completely different time period. It’s a challenge for the heroine and for the author at the same time.
As I mentioned there is a lot of surprises, unexpected twist and turns in the storyline and they are created and built into the book marvelously. It’s not a coincidence that the book is quite long but I wasn’t bore for one minute during reading. There are a lot of different elements crammed into the plot but its all works together perfectly. There are magic, dragons, elves but don’t forget the royal court’s intrigue, the power hungry schemers or the dangerous assassins either. What is to say the tale is extremely complex but not stuffy. The author is really good at building and interweaving different storylines. If you add to this the emotional charge the book radiate then you definitely up for a roller coaster like experience.
With Finnie I wasn’t always pleased with. I liked her mostly. She is adventurous, adroit, brave and resourceful but some instances she is also quite naïve and even immature. Her decision to willingly go to a different dimension is really rash, bold and honestly ambitious but she has an emotional reason to do it. When she realized that not everything is as she wants it she throw a hissy fit about really inconsequential things instead of concentrating on the important stuff. Sometimes she showed her spoiled billionaire brat self. However at the end she is a strong, brave and likeable character despite her few flaws. What I absolutely loved about her is the connection, relationship she formed with Frey’s men. They were the highlight of the book for me.
I absolutely adored Frey from the very beginning of the book. He is strong and commanding. He is used to the fact that things go as he wants them to go but all of this deservedly because he worked hard for his prestige. But when he is with Finnie he becomes a completely different person. To someone who is caring, protective, devoted and loving, who is willing to do anything to make Finnie happy. He is just perfect as it is.
Valentina, the witch is a mystery for me as of now. I can’t decide that she is on the good side or doing this only out of some nefarious, sadistic reasons.
The plot is really complex and captivating. I glad I read it but I had a couple of problems with the world building or more like with the description of it. It was hard for me to imagine some of the scenes, places in the book because some of the descriptions were so dragged out that I lost track of things. Not to mention the jumping between medieval/renaissance/ Baroque elements, atmospheres. It kinda confused me. It’s maybe not really noticeable for everybody but I just had an art history exam o it’s still fresh in my mind. But other than this is a phenomenal read.

Kristen Ashley is one of my favorite writers. Her books are compelling and relatable.
Wildest Dreams is the same. I love the story behind it and the lead up to the full series. I love the romance, intrigue and the plot behind it all.

3.5/5 - I liked this a lot, but I didn't Rock Chick level love it. I thought the world was interesting and I always love an HEA. I'll keep reading the series, and hope that it gets better.
That was such a fun read! I loved every second of being with this couple, in this amazing world. I have a feeling I won’t be sleeping much until I devour every book in this series.
Paralel universes, dragons and romance? Well, that sounded something I would enjoy.
Unfortunately, this was pretty boring. The main character, even though she was a Mary Sue, was likeable enough for me to finish this book (I did skim some parts but I finished it!). The "love interest" was an asshole which is nothing new. For some reason, if he is a manly man (in this one a dragon king and a lord of elves. Yep, both) he needs to be a controlling asshole. What was supposed to be a sweet romance was basically a toxic relationship. That being said, it was interesting to read about because whenever the main character saw something toxic he did, she would get mad but in the next scene he would be all charming and/or manipulative so she would blame herself and feel bad that she was even mad. That was a nice portrayal of a toxic relationship if you are looking for one. For a cute, heart warming romance, probably look somewhere else. Since I am (almost) okay with adult fantasy romance books having toxic relationships (unless younger readers read them as sweet) I am pretty tolerant to alpha male assholeness. That being said, Drakkar was so good at being manipulative I found myself caring for him at the end. I seriously think this book would have been a really good dark romance novel. Maybe I just felt bad for the main character. She was so naive and she loved EVERYONE unless they did or said something terrible to her. I actually thought she was in her early 20s instead of 30 years old.
As for the plot, it didn't have one. And the one we had was very boring. It had a lot of bad descriptions of stuff that I didn't care about and most of the "adventures" were told to us instead of shown.
Unfortunately, not a read I would recommend to anyone. (well, maybe people who are into controlling, asshole characters in their love stories)

Loved it
Thought this story was so sweet. I absolutely loved the writing and fell in love with Finne and Frey. I will say this story almost lost major points on how the characters reacted to Finnie's twin. It seems to be a reaction to the character and not the fact she is a lesbian, but some of the words made me feel pretty uncomfortable. That is my only gripe about this book, other than that I loved it. I loved how it was all pretty much from Finnie's point of view, the few times we had to switch was told from 3rd person and it just made the whole book so much cleaner. Wonderful book.
