MMC is a petty asshole who likes to humiliate FMC in public and private when she expresses vulnerability to him. I was REALLY hoping that this book wouldn’t have HER apologize to HIM about this…but it does.
Even worse, her narration mentions that there is no way he could know that infidelity/sleeping around is very bad in her world, because he doesn’t know she’s not the Princess. But he does know…and so do her parents…she is literally the only one out of the loop.
And her mother sits her down and tells her that yes, her husband cheating sucks, but she needs to fuck him well enough that he doesn’t cheat. And FMC does this.
MMC is also very physically dominating, constantly pins and corners FMC and does not listen when she tells him to let her go. I cannot STAND this shit.
One a more technical note: this book badly needs an editor. The run on sentences are plentiful, and the author has seemingly never met a comma she didn’t like. Not even a semi-colon will do! The phrasing is often clunky and the subject and object of these interminable sentences is sometimes unclear. I genuinely had to puzzle over several of them to figure out the meaning because they were so badly constructed.
Is this throwing stones from a glass house? No. I’m not charging money to read this review.
Other than that, the book was pretty good.

I didn't know Queen KA was so good in Paranormal!
Finnie and Frey were awesome!

what is this? sometimes i question my memory. i am more than half way through this book before i remember my life is fleeting and i shouldn’t waste it. i also just checked my audible library and this is the THIRTEENTH book by this author that i’ve purchased and out of all of them, i rated only two above three stars. talk about beating a dead horse. how embarrassing.
“his unfocused eyes focused on me.” stahp!
this book is ridiculous. the idea is cool, i thought, but executed so poorly (for me). there is SO MUCH rambling nonsense ... why tho? an example; she’s crying and says “then my face was in his neck ... because he put it there.” wut? remove all of the mundane “because he put it there” statements and this book could be cut in half. and what is her deal with the overbearing, growly hero who grunts three word sentences that are eye-rolling stupid, but swoon-worthy? nope. fuh .....

There’s something wonderful about reading nearly 500 pages chock-full of two people in love.
Is this a perfectly written story? Hell no. Quite frankly, Kristen Ashley desperately needs the thesaurus entry for “cool”. Frey also exhibits some truly problematic behavior. Without spoiling too much, he makes some very serious life altering decisions without the input or consent of Finnie. Luckily for me, this isn’t my first barbarian alpha male and I have no problem turning off my modern sensibilities to enjoy a good romance novel. I did stress about how Finnie would react when she found out, but the plot interrupts the fallout and the actual impact to the relationship is minimal (for good reason imo). There was already a huge falling out in the middle of the book over the “other woman”, so I consider the drama quota filled. All’s well that ends well, and ultimately, this was a 5-star read for me, but certainly not for everyone.
I found Finnie to be a delightful character to read. I love her enthusiasm for adventure and her subsequent ability to roll with the punches. The best fish out of water tales have heroines that make the most of it, and that’s exactly what Finnie does. When it’s finally cleared up that Finnie does not share Princess Sjofn’s preference for women, the story really takes off. Frey starts to see Finnie in a new light and they most definitely suit. The sexual tension is fantastic and the domestic shit is even better. As the relationship develops at a slow, but steady pace, you can’t help but love these characters more and more. Finnie shows Frey more love than he’s ever known (the dragon statue scene had me tearing up). Frey falls for Finnie’s compassion and zest for life.
This book has given me a newfound appreciation for romances where the couple is established early on and the bulk of the book details the highs and lows of their marriage. There are too many touching moments to count and the heat doesn’t disappoint.
P.S.: This book may contain literally the only occurrence ever where the hero tells the heroine not follow him when he’s off to do some important business and, despite her curiosity, she does. Mind b l o w n.

So this is about a woman who trades places with her alternate personality in another world. Turns out they are very different people. Cool. interesting enough set-up.
But I think my main reason for not finishing this the FMC, Fennie. Granted Frey my 2nd reason for not finishing this book, the MMC, is a sexist alpha-ish butt wipe. But Fennie basically just rolls over and gives in everytime he does something awful to her. I would have understood Fennie's decisions more, if she hadn't been a modern woman from our world who'd been transferred to their slightly more old-timey but with magic world.
She should have been to explain too Frey, that as an nobleman/aristocratic butt-wipe, that no "relations"/sex he shared with a servant who "knew her place" could be 100% consensual. And just because he could "do anything he wanted, with anyone he wanted, whenever he wanted", doesn't mean he should. And rubbing past lovers in your wife's face is NEVER okay. And then her mother explains to Fennie how her dad used to sleep around when they were first married. And it upset him to see his wife offended by it. So she decided to sex him up so good he wouldn't stray again. Just put aside all your pride and personal morals ladies, keeping your husband happy will keep you happy.
It's also cool in this world to sleep around before marriage, and be gay or lesbian. But only until you get married, then only the women have to behave. But for some reason it's cool that Frey hates Fennie's counterpart in this world for being a lesbian. This male slut won't go near a vagina that other woman have touched.
But Frey likes this Fennie so he makes the decision she will not go back to her own world, without talking to her of course. She thinks she's going back in a year.
I also have to agree with other reviews I've read that there was just way too much time wasted on descriptions of their clothing. Like pages describing her ice blue blah blah.

I will be the first to admit I am not a big fan of Fantasy like at all. Give me paranormal vamps, wolves, bears, but knowing that I am a HUGE Kristen Ashley fan I thought to give it a shot… I AM SO GLAD I DID!
Not only was it easy to read and follow along but the story was wonderful and sweet! I rooted for Seoafin aka Finnie right from the very beginning. <3 She had fought in her and I loved that. The last few chapters she was total kick butt girl.
Frey Drakkar… Swoony, he was totally manly right from the get-go. I loved when he first meets “Finnie” at the ceremony and he looks at her like she is loony toons. Ha I love it. I think from that point forward I was all about the Drakkar. :)
The passion /fire and the banter between Finnie and Frey it is fabulous! Really makes the story worth it. You will root for this unlikely pair I swear it’s fantastic. So, so, glad I gave this book this series a shot.
The narrator really hits it out of the park, I thought I would have to go back a re-listen to parts of this book and I didn't at all. She really makes you a part of the story.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I went into this book with no expectations and no idea what it was about, just a recommendation from a friend. In the very very beginning I was confused, I restarted this book about 10 times without finishing chapter 1 because I was sure I was missing something or just distracted but when I finally just continued past chapter 1 still clueless, chapter 2 explains it and It was like a light bulb went off for me. I enjoyed this book, it was very original and the world building was perfect. Some fantasy stories spend more time world building than telling the story but this author actually uses the story to help build the world for the reader. I really like Finnie, she was modern, sassy and fearless. Frey is alpha but he has a really big soft spot for Finnie and he is really great at trying to understand and see things through her eyes. I loved how much he really did keep in mind where she was from and the way he explained things to her without her asking. The ending was a little predictable for me but still enjoyable none the less. I will be continuing on to book 2, can't wait to see what's next for these two.
The narration was great. She did a great job at accents considering this takes place in a world that is completely fantasy. Each characters has their own voice and that really helped keep this story straight for me.
