3.4 AVERAGE

Buku ibu2 banget. Lima perempuan, usia 40an hingga 50 tahun.

Cliche and predictable, but not bad. But why do these 50 year old women seem so much older than me??!!!

Every summer I read really crappy books. It's like eating a bag of chips. You don't want to do it often, but on occasion, it tastes really good. Usually after a book of two, I'm satisfied and ready to go back to all those "important" books. Read too many, and it's like eating the entire bag. You feel sick and bloated afterwards and willing to swear them off forever (and by forever, I mean until the next summer).

This was surprisingly not terrible. I can't really say much more than that. It's no Tolstoy but it's not meant to be. It's one of those nice, sweet books that middle aged Midwest ladies like to read. And as I am a middle aged Midwestern lady, I suppose that's why I didn't feel like it was a terrible waste of my time. The only thing that I take issue with books like these is I'm happily married, not overly stressed, satisfied with where life has taken me. So generally stories like these it can't relate to because they aren't ever talking about a reality that comes close to mine. But I remember a time when they did, so that's why I still read them. They remind me how far I've come and to be grateful that I've arrived.

This book was ok, it seemed like it took forever to be the page turner I prefer. Not that it was bad, just seemed slow.

I started out liking this book....the premise was good...5 friends...their lives and a book club, what could go wrong? Well, the story for one....these guys were not really good friends till the end...not really...I would have had a hard time being friends with any of them...and their relationship with the men in their lives? (or lack thereof a relationship)...well, let's just say I understand that there are many women in the world who feel like these women did about man....I just thank my lucky stars that I am not one of them....I did like how the author used quotes from books that the book club ladies read to tie into the chapters...(And there were some weighty tomes these girls read!)

Friendship

I loved how these women did not always agree but they were always there for each other. I would love a sequel to see where everyone is a few years down the line.

I thought this book would talk about the activities in a book club and discuss book-related stuff, but it turns out the story focuses more on the household problems faced by the book club members. Honestly, i don’t really mind the story being about that, but it’s just a bit disappointing that there isn’t much discussion about the books or the club itself. Overall though, the drama presented in this book is pretty engaging because the conflicts are quite complex and interconnected with each character.
