That cliffhanger is going to kill me until the next book drops. The plot twists, the betrayal—I was not ready! I absolutely loved this. An easy 5-star read, and I’m already counting down to the sequel.

I could have just snuggled up and stayed in this world that Stacey built for us, forever.  It’s Peaky Blinders meet Elemental Magic and warring factions and romance and yearning and ALL OF THE THINGS and it has me in a chokehold.

Stacey’s way of using dual POV in third person, and atmospheric building, in this story makes you feel like you are literally in the world with them as you read it. So. Freaking. Good.

I could go on and on.. but just go get the book. You won’t regret it!

I will admit, I was very pleasantly surprised by this book! I went into it blind except knowing that it was more of a wartime magical realism with a slow burn romance… and wow, I was obsessed!

This book was everything I didn’t know I wanted it to be. It was easy to follow the world and the history, as well as the war politics and drama. I felt like the whole context was so original; I’ve never read a story like this before. I also loved the magic and the use of alchemy in this book! I loved how it really felt like everything, from the context of the magic as well as the elementals of it, was so thought out and really helped create this world that I found so intriguing! I loved the overall context and the peaky blinder vibes this story had, and I loved all the twists and turns that this story had!

One of my highlights about this book was definitely the slow burn romance… This was definitely a slow burn and I was living for it! I loved the tension and their history and everything about Patrick and Nora together. As for the characters, I’m obsessed with Patrick! One of my new fictional crushes I think; I just love his heart and his brain, and I love the love he has for his family as well as Nora. As for Nora, I really enjoyed her as well, but she did slightly annoy me at times. However, I think that was also just some of the miscommunication she did, but I get it and it was for good reason. I also really loved the side characters and how much everyone added to the story!

I will say, I didn’t know this was part of a series and I’m kind of kicking myself because I just feel like I need the next book now, especially after how the book ends! I’m so excited to read the second book and see where we left off with this world and characters I fell in love with throughout the story!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THATS HOW IT ENDS???

I loved this so much. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the world — definitely magical Peaky Blinders and I loved it. Just read my first three sentences and am cringing at how many times I just said “I loved it” but you know what, my brain is working on processing this book, not on utilizing my vocabulary.

Patrick Colson is absolutely giving Thomas Shelby, and I had his voice and aesthetic in mind the whole time. Nina was such an interesting FMC and I loved that she wasn’t just one thing. She is smart but makes some bad choices, she’s keeping a ton of secrets…

Well I’m off to google when the next book comes out, wish me luck!

What was that ending?!? This book was so unexpected and so good! I was literally just listening along to the audio thinking to myself this is pretty cool…then she turns around and blows my mind at the end! If you don’t like cliffhangers don’t read this book (yet) because it is criminal that I have to wait for the next one!

I think it could have been a little cut down in the middle—just kinda dragged a little but wasn’t too annoying and she definitely made up for it with her ending! As a primary audiobook reader I rarely have issues with the narrators but this one did not work for me. Especially for the MMC—the accent they used for when he spoke did not work for me at all. Really didn’t like when they used the accents at all and sometimes I couldn’t even tell if it was the male or female voice doing the accent but especially for the MMC—didn’t work for me and I think it affected how much I liked him as a character. Like the normal voice was perfect so I dunno why they get like they needed to add an accent. Just didn’t fit how I wanted to envision the character at all. So definitely recommend this book however, would not recommend the audio. Will most likely do physical for the rest of the series.
