First and foremost, thank you so much to @netgalley and @sagapress for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
The Peaky Blinders, Thomas Shelby fan in me is screaming. oh my goodness. Let’s just say I will most definitely be re-reading right before book 2 releases because the last half of the book was such a complete whirlwind of emotions. The plot twists were exquisite and man oh man, Patrick was ULTIMATE Thomas Shelby vibes 🤤
Lately in Romantasies, I have been enjoying the romance sub-plot over the fantasy, BUT I have to admit that this time around, I really enjoyed the fantasy over the romance. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy the romance at all, the fantasy aspect was just super intriguing and really well thought out right down to the magic systems and revolutionary uproar. The characters were done so well. Nina was feisty, but not annoying at all, and all the sub-characters had their role and played their part rather perfectly.
I only read the ending maybe like 13 times, to say the least. And yeah I guess i re-read the last 25% via audiobook to mimic the rollercoaster of emotions I had with my first read-through. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I, personally fell in love with this magic system and the Peaky Blinders world building was impeccable.

A peaky blinders coded world exploring the repercussions of what happens when hoarded power and intentional disenfranchisement are proven to be happening. Language became weirdly literary at points and didn’t necessarily feel like it fit the situation sometimes, but there were story related reasons it could have come off this way. I liked the dynamic between MCs but think Nina is probably too much of a realist and Patrick is too much of an idealist. I saw the ending from a mile away, but interestingly, have no idea what track book two will take or how they’ll resolve how things were left. Groundbreaking? No. But if romantasy with acquired magic, class warfare, and pesky blinders vibes sounds like your jam, give it a go.
