I've put off reading this since it came out because the hype felt too overwhelming. I'm glad I finally read it but it didn't compare to the original trilogy for me. I enjoyed spending time in this world again and my favourite part was the first half, focusing on Malcolm's life in Oxford. The journey in the second half got a little repetitive and while it was pretty gripping while I was reading, on reflection I felt like something was missing. It does make sense that it felt unfinished, since it's only the first part of The Book of Dust. However unfortunately I don't feel that excited about finding out what happens next.
Moderate: Sexual assault and Violence

The child abuse refers to one specific group that comes later in the book—it references an example of what they’ve done and they also drug babies. There’s also a story about the Church converting people and spreading that idea again.
