This book is just as enchanting to revisit now as it was to visit for the first time decades ago. The artwork is incredible and so detailed it really does feel like you might fall into some of the two-page spreads! I love the foundation of this world, too - there's something really gentle and lovely about it.

I can't tell you how many times I checked this book out from the library as a child, initially to just enjoy the magnificent illustrations and later, as I grew older, to read the actual story. It fed my love of dinosaurs far beyond anything The Land Before Time could do and inspired within me a pure wonder as I hoped beyond hope that such a place as Dinotopia could exist. I hope to share it with my children some day.
There's definitely diminishing returns as the series goes on, but this represents the best mixture of Wyeth-esque art and fantasy narrative. A must-own!
