It did what it was trying to do, but I thought it was “meh”.

Cute sapphic romances is where it’s at right now. I loved seeing these two opposites attract and fake date each other. The disastrous first date was great. It was sweet lighthearted and it’s just a fun distraction from life for sure. Loving queer romances.

”Nothing did justice to the feeling of someone looking into your eyes and connecting with you on a soul-deep level.”

I loved how sure Elizabeth “Elle” Marie Jones was about what she wanted and what she was looking for. I also loved how she put Brendon in his place when things blew up between her and Darcy Lowell. While I understand where Darcy is coming from, I had a hard time ”believing it” so to speak. After having read two thirds of the book I honestly felt that Darcy put more effort into getting to know Elle’s interest (ironically) than Elle to Darcy. I would have wanted it shown more that Elle sat down with Darcy and watched soap operas, or something. Do not get me wrong, Elle did things for Darcy, but I felt like I missed the everyday stuff a bit.

Tropes:
  • Faking dating
  • Opposites attract

This is not the type of book I’d usually go for as I am not really a romance person.  A family member bought it for me and I have tried to rate objectively, but if you’re a fan of lighthearted WLW/queer women romances, you’ll probably love this book.  It was fun for the most part, but the characters are a bit predictable in my opinion.  <spoilers> Sex scenes were not nearly as cringe-worthy as a lot of romance books so that was a pleasant surprise. </spoilers>  Overall: light, quick, and fun, but not life-changing.

More Bridget Jones than Pride and Prejudice. But gay.

While I did love the chemistry between the two mains, the story surrounding them was not my favorite.
The high school level of love proclamation just made my eyes roll. Maybe I'm just cynical?

One thing that was super annoying is text messages being read on audio.. omg. I almost turned it off.
Having the name and time be read out all the time for a quick back and forth.
There is no helping this annoyance and is the fault of no one. I just don't like it 😅
