Without a doubt, the best book I’ll ever read. An essential read for understanding race, religion, incarceration, and revolution. Also surprisingly references a lot of music, setting the scene perfectly throughout.

« The white people in meeting audience would throng around me, asking me, after I had addressed them somewhere, ˋWhat can a sincere white person do?´
When I can say that here now, it makes me think about that little co-ed girl I told you about, the one who flew from her New England college to New York and came up to me in the Nation of Islam’s restaurant in Harlem, and I told her that there was ˋNothing´ she could do. I regret I told her that. I wish that now I knew her name, or where I could telephone her, or write to her, and tell her what I tell white people now when they present themselves as being sincere, and ask me, one way or another, the same thing that she asked.
[…]
Where the really sincere white people have got to do their 'proving’ of themselves is not among the black victims, but out on the battle lines of where America's racism really is - and that's in their own home communities; America's racism is among their own fellow whites. That's where the sincere whites who really mean to accomplish something have got to work. » p. 494-945
1 semaine.

I have a lot of feelings I need to sit with and come back to leave a proper review.
I will say the opening chapters were cinematic and riveting, I almost forgot what I was reading but I was certainly reminded harshly. I’ve read this in highschool (I’m 30) and in hindsight, I didn’t take in much lol it felt like a first time read. Malcom was a complex figure, and while inspiring in many ways —some of his choices throughout were questionable and I’m still not certain where he falls with his opinions on women as far as this text explains. I’ll have to do some outside research before forming a full opinion but overall, I’m better for having read it.
