Another fantastic book from Stacey Halls! I absolutely love the amount of research she does into her books and the amount of history we get to see. This book is set in 1904 and follows a Nanny from the Norland Institute which is a specialist college (I believe it’s now a university or about to gain university status) that trains an elite fleet of Nanny’s for the rich and famous. They really are worth their weight in gold because it’s intense!
I’m so interested in the institute itself and to see what it was like to be a Norland Nanny in the early 1900s was so interesting. I just love Stacey Hall’s books with my whole heart ❤️

Disappointing. Where was the story? It was boring. Apart from a couple of characters with strong personalities nothing happened. Couldn’t wait for it to finish. Kept waiting for something to happen. It didn’t

I was a bit disappointed. There were long sections of not quite hints and it was frustratingly slow rather than tension-building. Then the end was quite quick and wasn’t wholly justified or explained in my opinion. The Familiars remains the best book to date from Stacey Halls.

This would have been a fantastic novel except for the fact that it was centred around its ending which is admittedly worth waiting for. I wish that Halls had put a bit more drama or plot into the first 200 pages as I found myself tempted to stop reading it. Having said this, I was incredibly intrigued by the Nanny concept and shows that there must have been a lot of historical research.

Greatly enjoyed this, although the end drags on a bit, and not sure last sentences are successful. But generally a fun, gothic read with interesting characters and intriguing plot.
