This book was okay. Pretty much figured out the story by about halfway through. After that I felt like I was waiting for the narrator to catch up. Readable but a bit formulaic. Sorry. The Familiars was so good and I wanted this to be as brilliant.

Ruby is a Norland Nanny and when she finds herself out of a position. She heads to Yorkshire to be the Nanny for The Englands. She is not there long when she begins to realise that this is not a straightforward family. Charles seems very protective of his wife and she seems withdrawn. Ruby is confused with her feelings about the family and she also has her own demons. This is a slow burner of a story which really draws you in and has twists, turns and shocks.
A fantastic historical atmospheric novel !

I really enjoyed the storyline and the slow build of the conflict. I being able to feel the worry and anxiety that our character does almost as if to return to the story is somehow unsafe it makes it hard to put down!
