I'm not very well-versed in the ABO/Omegaverse genre, but maybe I should be.
If you're looking for a Dramione fanfic that's simple in its rendering, has werewolf/shifter aspects (without actually being either one of those), and is about 80% glorious smut? Look no fucking further.
Listen, there were some cringe moments, particularly in the beginning, and they were mainly embarrassing cringe moments, but the whole Omegaverse thing seems to be a little cringe-inducing anyway. Knotting, swelling, drenched nether regions, possessive edges, and Alpha/submissive themes. I've come to the realization that I like very shameful, very detailed, very...open writing styles, with generous explanations, long sex scenes, and extremely raw moments. And I'm okay with that. Bring it on. Let the heat commence!
Senlinyu's other work, Manacled, was rawness at its greatest, and it was utterly brilliant. I suffered and obsessed reading that book, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm very pleased to say Senlinyu wrote an entirely different type of Dramione fanfic with distinct and unique personalities and characterizations, as if a whole other author wrote it. Usually, authors have similar word choices and somewhat similar characterizations throughout all their books, but not here! And I was seriously impressed. Seriously. Wow. Get Senlinyu a fucking book deal, now.
God, and let me just say that Draco was so goddamn hot in this fic. Holy hell. Some of the one liners he had were goddamn bloody sinful. He's probably the hottest iteration of his character I've ever read (next to Breath Mints/Battle Scars - the Draco in that one was hot as hell and sinful, too.) These authors sure know how to write a delicious bad boy.
Did I like this better than Manacled? No, but I still loved it. Can I complain about something? Let me get that over with real quick:
>>>>>the sex scenes became a tad bit repetitive. Was I mad about it? Would I change anything? Would I implore Senlinyu to cut back on sexy times? God, no. Absolutely not. She writes intense and focused sex scenes, and I wouldn't change anything.
>>>>>the miscommunication. Jesus. Wow. She warned readers about this and usually I ABHOR miscommunication, but you know what? I love angst, tension, and pining, and this miscommunication thing was done superbly, so I wasn't very bothered by it.
>>>>>Hermione was a bit of a coward in this one. When compared to the characterization of Hermione in Manacled, it's a stark contrast. Yes, Hermione was still brave and overall, I loved her character, but sometimes I just wanted to shake her!!! And if she said "biology" or "biological imperative" one more time, I was going to scream.
Indulge in the shameful, Goodreads fiends.
