I didn't think I would get into these, but it was an OK read!
Re-read this book for the nth time and it's still as if I just read it the first time. Amazing!

RE-READ THIS TODAY (03/11/2015) AND YES, THIS BOOK IS STILL BEYOND MY WILDEST DREAMS. SO DAMN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
---------------------------------
The title says it all.
Kristen Ashley has done it again. She made me love her characters all over again. This time, she also made me believe that there's a parallel, universe out there. It's like the Game of thrones complete with magic, elves, dragons and conspiracy, minus all the weird sexual scenes.
I loved Finnies's character right away because she is EXCITED. She's always excited and always very interested with everything. I was awed with the grace that she showed in the face if a very unknown place and a very shocking event. She always found something good about something that is generally bad. Kike the situation that she was in. She made the most out of it and she kicked ass. :)
Frey on the other hand, is quite lovable too. I just hate the way he withheld pertinent information from Finnie. I think Finnie deserved to know everything and I'm also thinking that Frey had a free pass from that since he kinda sorta died while Finnie was confronting him about it. Anyway, he has a very strong character. Everyone bows down to him and everyone reveres him because hellooo... who would want the wrath of the person who commands the dragons and the elves? It's such a good thing too that he laughs a lot with Finnie because aside from being hot while doing this, it also shows that he appreciate Finnie's words. I like how they talk to each other. I like how they stayed open and not let a fight last for soooo lone.. well longer than a few weeks, that is. I love how he cares so much for a virtual stranger and I love how he shows that he cares. He's i posing and yet, he's also very gentle. His character has a very nice mixture. I love it sooo much!!
The story has many twists and turns. It has any high and low points and it has magic. I love how it started and especially how it ended. I hope that the next one in this series is also good.. or better.... :)

Lol well this was every bit of cheesy you'd expect a fantasy romance novel to be. XD
I felt like it was a bit longer than necessary and found myself skimming a lot of parts but this kept me surprisingly interested until the end. I just thought that Finnie was a little immature? I don't know if the author mentioned the character's age but based on how many times she said "cool" or "awesome", she sounded to me like a 16 year old girl from the valley. But other than that, she was tolerable.
Frey was very Khal Drogo to me but then again so was Lahn from The Golden Dynasty, which I might add was 100 percent a Khal Drogo/Daenerys knock off story. So I'm beginning to think all the books in this series, well at least all the males in this, are based on Khal Drogo.
Overall, Wildest Dreams was decent. It was a little too long and I was bored in some parts but it kept me entertained enough. You don't really read these types of books for the world-building but it was a decent romance book set in a fantasy world.

Reread 2019: Yep. This book still pisses me off.
Original review 2014: What do you get when you mix a weak heroine who won't stand up for herself with an asshat hero who humiliates and bullies her? A migraine and OMFG RAGE.
I wanted to cut his balls off, chop them into small pieces and feed them to him. Very slowly. I also wanted to smack her upside the head and tell her to grow a pair. My head hurts just thinking about these two. Hell, maybe they deserve each other.

Rating- Good but could’ve been better
Heat- 3 several scenes
Tropes- arrainged marriage, mistaken identity
When it comes to originality, this book is off the charts. The idea is that there is a parallel universe to ours in which everyone has a twin, but this other world is more medieval and includes magic and magical creatures. The only downside to this book...

The way Finnie talked!
Finnie talks like an illiterate teenager. Everything is “cool.” There was one page that had the word cool on it 5 different times. Every now and then she would mix it up with a “freaking cool.” To make it even worse, her internal vocabulary was the same, and we are constantly treated to her inner thoughts as one or two word phrases.
“Eek!”
“Holy Moly!”
“Hmmm”
Add to that those one word thoughts were frequently repeated out loud, so we had to be told that she thought it and then said it.
Elves!
Oh, my god! How cool!
This world had elves!
I looked back at Frey and whispered, “How cool!

IF you can get past this aspect, the story itself is wonderful. Frey is your typical Ashley hero. He is occasionally a overbearing jerk, but he also only knows a world where women don’t have the freedoms that we do now. For the most part, his care of Finnie is heartwarming. Finnie is basically TSTL since she can’t seem to realize that speaking like a valley girl is going to give away that she isn’t her twin, but she is upbeat and fun. The world building is very complete, and the entire plot is fresh and unique. A good editing would make this a 5 star read.

This is the story of a very special snowflake named MarySu- I mean.. Finny. The special snowflake lands in the ice kingdom and takes the place of her evil twin with the same name. She’s incredibly beautiful, funny, kind. She’s become skilled at archery to relate to her twins father. She’s learned to dance well for the courts. She’s learned daggers for her husband. She’s even brought a small abused child completely out of his shell. Oh. And she’s able to do horse tricks. All of this within 5 months!
So yeah. She’s all around perfect.
There is a lot of over detailing and drawn-out descriptions that waste time; in the sense that they’re not pertinent to the progression of the story.
What really galls me is the SLANG. Complete overuse of “oh my god!” and “how cool!” and “wow, totally!” in the narration. And “freaking” I get that it’s supposed to be how the girl thinks and talks BUT as I’m trying to read the story and get into it, her valley girl rhetoric is extremely detracting. Used sparingly, it would still convey her personality and mindset without making the literature seem like an elongated twitter post.
Short and sweet: She’s annoying.
Whether the story being told is interesting enough to overshadow the prior or I’m so hard up for good books right now that I’m settling (everything I want is either on hold or too pricey to risk)
