Good lord this book was chaotic. This really was a fantasy soap opera in itself. I just think the author needs a better editor.

I would have loved more of a peak into the fae world and the scary peoole were not that scary. Also, the big secret was not that sinister.

4 stars because I have never read anything like it!

A delightful time! Showbiz caked in glitter and magic. I just enjoyed the vibe throughout. I found all the characters really enjoyable, both human and nonhuman, with nice little touches and unique aspects all around. LOTS of puns, and although I'm not in showbusiness myself I suspect for anyone in the business they would find a lot of the details and jokes in here particularly compelling.

The book felt a little long and meandering, I wasn't always fully engaged with the stakes, and there were SO many characters and things going on that even though pretty much all of them were distinct, I sometimes found myself drifting a bit. Still, that made it a pretty nice read on the train--I just opened it up, saw some glitz and glam framed with some likable moments of human heart, and then could close it up at the end of my ride without being too worried or on the edge of my seat.

So overall I just found the story really pleasant and creative. There was lots of silly worldbuilding with all the Mythics and the structures of their "reality TV" and the ways in which the world and creatures worked that made for a dazzling read. I would recommend this to someone looking for a funny but somewhat meaty read, who likes puns and doubly-recommend to anyone enamored with show business.

I thought this was going to be a great read. The blurb made it seem like there was going to be a lot of mystery and fantasy , but for me, it was a mixture of confusing and boring.

The author went with putting Starr in a world where she doesn't understand anything that's going on and no one is explaining anything. Even the chapters in other peoples' POV don't help, because they don't explain anything either. I know that some readers love piecing together puzzles like this, but they just irritate me.

The descriptions are great, and there's a lot of really imaginative bits here. Sadly, it just didn't work for me, but for the right reader this will be an amazing read.

So, this was ok. Sometimes we need an okay novel - a fun storyline where the protagonist is whisked away to become a TV star with a big break…only the big break is in a fantasy world and the viewers are not your everyday people. This reminded me of Jasper Ffordes novels, they enjoyable but, for me, behind the humour of ‘oh, that’s a cute reference’, it’s a little shallow and forgetful afterwards. Anyways, this could be a good holiday read - it’s fun with a cute plot and some interesting characters. Re-reading my review feels a little like this novel - light, feels like it should be saying more than it is but, ultimately, does the job in the end!

Starr Weatherby's dream is to be an actress. Instead, she is waitressing while waiting for her big break. Unbeknownst to her, Starr is being watched from beyond the Veil to star in a series especially for mythic beings. Jason, the director for a mythic show, Tune in Tomorrow finally approaches Starr to offer her a gig. However, Starr must be brought through the Veil and accepted by the show's star and resident diva, Fiona. Starr is amazed by everything on the other side of the Veil and after the shock passes, the hard part begins. Fiona is not open to another female star on the show. Fiona accepts Starr only to scheme to have her quit or get thrown out of the show. Starr wizens up to Fiona's antics, but has made an enemy out of the diva. Other than Fiona's stunts, Starr quickly falls in love with magic and beings on the other side. Starr needs to figure out how to work with Fiona and the mystery of her predecessor, Amelia, before its too late.

Tune in Tomorrow is a zany, entertaining mythical soap opera. Starr's passion and drive for performing is evident from the beginning, I was taken in by her willingness to sacrifice for her dream. A television show about humans in another realm was definitely an interesting twist and I was as amazed as Starr when she went beyond the Veil for the first time to witness a dragon security guard, camera dryads, brownie personal assistants and werepanter writers. As Starr enters the mythical world beyond the Veil for the first time, there is a lot of information to be processed and the pacing slows a bit as Starr gets to know everyone and begin filming the show. Suspense builds as Fiona attempts to boot Starr from the show intensify and Starr continues to play into her strategies. I did love exploring some of the mythical areas beyond the Tune In Tomorrow set including the alternate Central Park, the Brownie doors and their strike and the Mythic award show.

What a wonderful feeling to stumble across a book that is exactly what you've been looking for. This book was perfect! It was super fun, it was super weird, I loved it. Great characters, great story, no part felt lacking. I don't know why my library didn't have a copy but a request has been made!

reasons to read this book:
it has fae. it has an incorrigible mc. the story is complex without being hard to follow. one of the main characters has a bizarre yet perfect fashion sense and one of his first outfits includes aquarium platform shoes with water nymphs in them. everyone has annoying cantrips. the brownies organize and go on strike. everyone starts off hating each other but ends up loving each other. one second you'll be laughing or groaning at bad puns and the next you'll be reflecting on the inevitability of mortality and the human experience. there's a centaur named kyle. it's just fun and weird!!!!
