Easily could have been 100 pages shorter and full to the brim with misogyny. As with a Poirot, I feel satisfied with the conclusion but wish we could have gotten there sooner.

Not my favourite of the Poirot series, but still a solid read. Most it felt like not enough was actually happening and we as the reader spent a good chunk of the book unsure if there was any danger still. It was a sort of abstract murder mystery and whilst that suited the general plot, it made for an unsatisfying read at times.

While I think the angle Christie takes here is interesting in theory, investigating a confession with seemingly no crime to back it up, it's clear much of the novel is her spinning wheels until she finally conjures a solution to wrap things neatly in a bow. When things move, they have that Poirot charm, but it takes a lot of build up and repetition to get there.
