Enjoyable dual POV Scottish romance read. It didn't reinvent the wheel or anything, but both of the love interests were likeable. The villain was a bit cartoonishly evil. The male love interest's mother and sister were great. Would recommend to anyone who likes Scottish romance as a genre. At times, the dialogue was a bit much for me, but I haven't read much in the genre before.

This was a case were the MFC had multiple "too stupid to live" moments. Also I was introduced to a variant of the miscommunication trope that takes the cake for worst possible version: MMC clearly communicating that he doesn't want to hurt her (she can't even stand up without pain) or force her into marrying him by ruining her  reputation, so they shouldn't have sex, and MFC deciding "nope, they are definitely lying about the very reasonable reason we shouldn't have sex, he just thinks my bruises are ugly"

All the "mystery" aspects were also super obvious and I rolled my eyes in annoyance more than once.

This was the second book in a row that was kinda a dud for me, so I think I'm going to peace out of this series until we get Alick's book (which this book strongly hunted who he'll end up with) and then just read that one.
