This was a case were the MFC had multiple "too stupid to live" moments. Also I was introduced to a variant of the miscommunication trope that takes the cake for worst possible version: MMC clearly communicating that he doesn't want to hurt her (she can't even stand up without pain) or force her into marrying him by ruining her  reputation, so they shouldn't have sex, and MFC deciding "nope, they are definitely lying about the very reasonable reason we shouldn't have sex, he just thinks my bruises are ugly"

All the "mystery" aspects were also super obvious and I rolled my eyes in annoyance more than once.

This was the second book in a row that was kinda a dud for me, so I think I'm going to peace out of this series until we get Alick's book (which this book strongly hunted who he'll end up with) and then just read that one.

I received an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.  I love this series and I was so looking forward to this next book.  It did not disappoint!  I think this one felt like a slow burn more than any other book in the series but I really enjoyed it.  Calan and Allisaid are both loveable, and their romance is so sweet.  I wish that the ending didn't feel so rushed though.  I feel like the climax or resolution to the conflict could have been drawn out a bit more and I still would have loved it!  I will most likely check back once the final is out to see if there's an epilogue or maybe an additional chapter.  As the book is currently it feels like a very abrupt end.  Also if I was sad that book 10 was not about Alick Buchanan, book 11 only teased me even more!!!  I knew it wasn't Alick's story but seeing a beloved character pop up in these books over and over again has me desperate for his story!  Content warnings for rape, and physical abuse. Also a spoiler in the beginning of the book that relates to book 10.
