4.29 AVERAGE

I'm upgrading this one for nostalgia's sake from a 3 star to a 4 star.
As an ending to a series goes, this one hits a lot of good notes. There are real consequences to the decisions being made, and the subject matter is a bit darker and more thought-provoking than some of the middle books.
That being said, I really wish that
Spoiler the scourge arc had been separated from Tigerstar's death. To have the main villain of the entire series die without Firestar playing any role felt a bit rushed. If the dog arc had been moved up earlier and book five had ended with Tigerstar's death + Scourge emerging as the new threat, it might have given the reader more processing time, but as is, it's hard to feel any significant emotions about a villain who is introduced in the last half of the final book.

Really glad that I was able to revisit this series after so long away. Definitely more holes and character issues than I remembered, but still a fun read with some solid lessons about friendship and making hard decisions about following the "rules" compared with doing what's right.

dare I say the best book (yes maybe it’s because bluestar wasn’t there pissing me off every two seconds) I don’t really have much to say other than WOW the scenes in this book are incredibly short. Like the battle took up one singular chapter. Even with no yapping each book manages to hit at least 300 pages, now THAT is impressive. But like it feels like they still yap?? I have no idea how to explain it other than yapping but take out the yap… which I guess would just make it “ing” but IDKKKK ITS HARD TO EXPLAIN AHHH

Okay also the whole “graystripe should be deputy blah blah blah” pissed me off. Just because he’s your bestie or whatever doesn’t mean that this man should be your deputy… THIS MAN??? like ho no. Get freaking longtail up here, he deserves SO much better. Like yes he was a hater but he also learnt his lesson and is a little bit older and firestar knows that he can trust him… like he’s BEEN trusting him?? So why on earth are we defaulting to “wait he’s my bestie though” THATS NOT HOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO GO!!!!!!

anyway sandstorm and firestar were SUCH cuties in this book and sandstorm still kept her spark (hell yeah) and firestar kept his word about giving her an apprentice by promising sorrelkit to her. Okay one thing I will just really quickly say is that I missed this arc because it’s so mentor/apprentice based and I love that so much. Like I love the idea of having cats keep their eye on a specific kit that they want to mentor and like ughhh it’s just so cutesy and like makes the clan seem like such a big happy family. okay also the whole thing between the queens of “we won’t ask if you don’t offer” about the kit’s fathers is actually really sweet. It’s just so simple and probably just because the authors couldn’t be bothered creating male cats to actually be the fathers but awwwwww

OKAY NOW ONTO ANOTHER THING THAT PISSES ME OFF… SPOTTEDLEAF. that little pedophile nice smelling cat should be counting her days because i WILL throw her off a cliff, no I don’t care that she’s already dead. She’ll be faded by the time I’m done with her. I hate that Firestar has a mindset that makes him think he needs to rely on her. Like you guys talked around 3 times you have no right calling her your “first love” also the whole thing where spottedleaf supposedly gave her creepy cat cult in the sky blessing to firestar to be mates with sandstorm and he said that he felt relieved that he didn’t have to feel guilty hanging out with sandstorm anymore was SO WEIRD!!! You have this cat that you met 4 times and thought smelled good who up and died and then you have this alive nice, brave cat who really cares about you and will support you who is, more importantly, ALIVE!!! and yet you still feel like you need to justify hanging out with her?? like I know it’s a cult but DAMN

okay anyway this series is so nostalgic and it will always be one of my top series that I read as a kid

This is the perfect ending to an amazing first series in this franchise! The first half starts tense but isn't overly filled with dramatic plotpoints which makes the back end of the book feel like a punch to the gut.

Firestar's pride for his clan and him reflecting on their individual stories and skills before and during the battle was an emotional rollercoaster and the twist with scourge was excellent. Chapeau.

It was so good and sad at the same time I would recommend!!!

I mean...I can't give this finale anything but a perfect score. It's climactic, driven, and exciting all the way through.
