This was a wonderful read. Sad at some points because the subjects of the book were so heavy and also monumental to our country. It's such a small snap shot of the Obama administration but in the 10 days discussed they were incredibly important. I was brought to tears twice and also joyfully happy at the way things turned out and how it all came to pass for the ACA and Marriage equality. On top of a mass shooting Eulogy no one wanted to make that ended up being a beautiful and momentous tribute to the lives of the Charleston Nine. This is a book I am glad I have. Special thanks to Taryn and Mariner books.

Focuses on ten days in June 2015, when a domestic terrorist killed nine during a Bible study in Charleston, SC through the memorial service for Reverend Pinckney, one of those killed, at which President Obama spoke. In that time the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage and the Affordable Care Act. Written by Obama’s chief speechwriter, so focuses on the process of writing these key speeches and others. I was just beginning my Peace Corps service and quite isolated, so was not aware of all that happened then. Thoughtful, hopeful, inspiring – tears at the end.

I am a SUCKER for a political memoir, especially an Obama era memoir. This might be my new favorite. The structure of looking at 10 days from the Obama presidency and what those days mean for who we are and who we can be....man only a speechwriter could structure something like that. It actually brought tears to my eyes.
