These ten days are so engrained in my mind and I will always remember watching President Obama's speech live and the tears I shed watching him sing to a crowd of mourners. This is an incredible memoir and recount of a very monumental week in American history. Thanks for capturing this history so well, Cody Keenan!

The power of grace is something I wish I could’ve expressed as well as the author had. As well as Obama had. As well as lives of those we lost that horrible day had. But the author does more then express that grace, he vividly paints the picture and places you in the setting as if you were there… and it moved me to tears.

Intertwined with the other major events that defined the social trajectory of America, the book left me yearning even more for the time when the country had leadership taking us forward on the path of progress. And while I believe we may deviate and ultimately come back to that said path, I am called out in the epilogue - maybe I am sick and tired and just want that change faster.

And while Obama was far from perfect, this memoir reminds me why I miss someone who actually fought for the people. Someone who seemed to care and take what they preached and turn it into action. Where would I be without the affordable care act? Permanently damaged by an unaffordable surgery. Where would we be without the fight for marriage equality? Where would we be without the call to address the sins of white nationalism and racism? Where would we be without that person who fought for us? I don’t want to know.

My only reason for the deduction is because of the memoir/biographical setting. I felt the topic of grace and the historical unfolding was so captivating that the insertion of the authors personal life often threw me off track. It’s not that I didn’t want to know more about the author, it just felt like an odd mix or awkward timing. Sometimes the language was also of awkward selection. But overall, this book exceeded my expectations - and I highly recommend this to someone who is interested in competent leadership, the power of religion, forgiveness, and grace in conflict resolution, and the overall arch of American history that I believe too bends towards justice.

Loved this. As expected from a speechwriter, this is written beautifully.
