While the prose and atmosphere here is what I would expect from Mimi Matthews, this story lacked some of the depth of her later books. It’s a fine book but it’s clear how much she has grown as a storyteller since this one.
It’s a quick read at only about 200 pages, and a sweet take on the beauty and the beast storyline. I felt a lack of connection with the two main characters, but it’s a wholesome and cute story at the end of the day.
Moderate: War
Minor: Suicide

After re-reading: I still loved this story but the ending felt abrupt after how much pain I went through to get to them being together. I wish we would have gotten to see them happy.
Original review: 5⭐️ I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this because second chance romance is always iffy for me, but I ended up really loving this. It’s a decent length novella and so much is packed into it! There’s a lot of depth to Sylvia and Sebastien. I was rooting for them so much.

I was looking for a fast past Victorian romance which is what this was. It was just very simple overall. Wasn’t bad but also wasn’t exceptional.
Minor: Suicide
mentions of the main character’s father haven commuted suicide before the start of the book
