Great read! I love her writing and the cultural elements. This is a perfect example of YA enemies to lovers. I was entertained from start to finish. Loved how the folklore aspect involved the vampires. I’m not gonna say much more because going in blind was so much fun!!! I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of her books! The narrator’s Diana Bustelo and Gary Tiedemann really brought this story to life!

The softest of DNFs. There are just other books I'm more excited to read.

A story about a vampire hunter from a long line of vampire hunters falls in love with a newly turned vampire.  Lalo, a softspoken and naive aristocratic man, seeks to find revenge for his parent's murder, but ends up being turned into a vampire himself.  Hoping to outrun his maker and find a solution once and for all, he and his sister run to a town where vampire lore runs deep.  There he meets headstrong and outspoken Carolina. The two must pair up in spite of all odds in order to free the land of the vampire curse.

I loved the setting of this story and the Mexican lore of vampiros and old trickster gods.  I also loved the characters and the flipping of the gender norms when it comes to hunter/vampire books.  I loved how strong, brave, and loving Carolina was - and I love that it didn't come off cliche or over done but rather a natural strength and determination that is enhanced by her womanhood.  I also loved Lalo who was a bit sheepish, naive, aristocratic but again, not too overly done.  Lalo finds his strength and courage and Carolina finds a deeper purpose than her initial struggles of proving herself a capable woman AND hunter.  I found that these were well done and added to the overall enjoyment of the story.  I found the book to be generally light in spite of the death and destruction of the vampiros - it was a nice balance and I didn't feel like anything was too gruesome.  I'm excited to read more from Angela Montoya!

Nothing against this book, really, I just realized I wasn’t enjoying it at all. Just not for me.

So much fun!

Vampire / vampire hunter romance that explores the origin of the curse for the region this story is set in. Enjoyable and fun characters, with enough heartache to make you wonder "will they?"
