oh the story this was… I was intrigued by this book when I read the synopsis and the book did not disappoint. While the characters and the vampiric portrayal was interesting (as different takes on the vampire story always are)… what I was most interested in and my favorite part of the book was the Spanish, Mexican, and Latin culture and stories that could be found within. I really enjoyed reading that part and I wish there was even more than we got on it. I enjoyed Lalo and Carolina’s story and how they were portrayed almost as star-crossed lovers, but I didn’t always connect with them and on the parts that I did connect with them, I wish I had more.
Overall it was an intriguing story and I definitely want to read more from this author :)

I love vampires and all the varying folklores authors come up with to explain their existence. I think the best vampire stories have a religious component, and this story does a perfect job of introducing Mesoamerican mythology to vampire folklore. The idea that love makes you monstrous is another favorite theme of mine for vampire stories, and I think this book did that idea justice. I will be picking up Angela Montoya's other books!

This is an incredible standalone, that I read in around six hours. I will definitely be getting Sinners Isle. I don't have much to say, I just really enjoyed the book, plot and the characters. Lalo is adorable ♡

Unfortunately this book didn’t work for me from the start. Only a few pages in I noticed how awkward the writing was and how unnatural the dialogue felt. And I could almost immediately tell that I wouldn’t be a fan of either of the main characters.

I overall enjoyed this book. It's YA, and I feel like it read on the slightly younger side. I think it's very comparable to Divine Rivals. If you liked that book, I think you will like this. I really liked the characters and the setting. I also enjoyed the writing style. It's pretty fast paced, which I think overall does work for the story.
