Vampires? Yes. Strong female lead? Yes. Little bit of horror and dark, gothic fantasy? YES!

Pros:
*Celine’s fierceness! She is definitely a bit of me. Love her!!
*The tension and forbidden romance in this book was on point. Heads up it is very low on the spice level, but that worked for me, especially as the plot escalated later on in the story.
*Though the beginning felt slow for me, half way through I ended up not being able to put it down and it absolutely disrupted my normal work week routine! 😂
*I appreciated challenging the idea of gender roles/norms.
*Mr. ARJUN DESAI 😍
*Includes a villain POV
*Murder mystery!

Cons:
*While I loved the dark and historical setting, I felt it could have better described New Orleans specifically.
*Writing style wasn’t my favorite.
*The plot twist!! 😫 Not necessarily a con but dang I could not put the book down when it was revealed.

I can understand why some people have rated this lower because there are a lot of vampire and werewolf type stories to compare this to, but I enjoyed reading this book! I plan to read the rest of the quartet.

As a lover of The Originals, Twilight and Historical Fiction, The Beautiful checked all of my boxes. While this was the first novel in the series it sucked me in and sets up well for the continuation for the next book.

While there are still so many unanswered questions, which are all annotated in my book, I thoroughly enjoyed being able to put the pieces together as more and more was revealed. Even the main character, Celine, has secrets that are not spelled out until later on into the series.

The characters that we meet such as Bastien and Odette are intriguing. While we only see a few of them on a regular basis, it is hard to not notice the love and loyalty they share.

I immediately started the next book in the series and I cannot wait to share my thought on that one too!

this was as beautifully written and everything else this author does.

so if you want straight to the point and no diacritics writing or plot that just gets to where it is going without some detours?
not the book for you.

but i enjoyed this a lot.

i really loved the characters and their stories.
i enjoyed the female characters in this book and how they used that to their advantage because every male and some other people as well just dismissed them because of their gender.

i enjoyed the supernatural or fantastical elements as well. it was nicely woven into the story in a way that was well done, it fit well into the historical aspects of the story and just added a little something extra to it.

i just enjoyed this a lot and will counting on soon.
